Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response identifies the graph’s subject and period, and it attempts to report an overall rise in tourist numbers. However, the overview is vague and partly inaccurate: “the people on ships accounted slowly” does not clearly describe the cruise-ship trend, which rose overall, especially towards 2017. The statement that island visitors “are fell or rose at a time” gestures towards fluctuation but does not explain that this figure generally increased before dipping slightly and ending at about 1.5 million. No meaningful figures or comparisons are provided, and the response stops after “In 2010,” without completing the report. It is also 95 words below the required minimum. Include a clear overview and select key figures to support the main trends.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence is followed by a separate overview paragraph. The time period is also stated, giving the reader some context. However, the ideas do not progress into a complete report. The final fragment, “In 2010,” is unfinished, and there are no developed details or comparisons to connect to the overview. Linking is limited, while “while” and “but” are used without creating clear relationships between complete ideas. The punctuation and spacing around these links also interrupt the flow. To improve, use a clear sequence—introduction, overview, then one or two paragraphs comparing the data—and ensure every sentence is complete.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some relevant topic vocabulary, including “line graph,” “visitor,” “tourist,” “island,” and “ships,” so the subject is recognisable. It also attempts to describe change with “increasing rapidly” and “rose.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unclear: “collect the records” is not a natural way to describe what a graph presents, and “accounted slowly” does not convey a clear trend. “Carribbean” is misspelled, and “the visitor” is imprecise for the figures shown. The small range of trend language limits the report’s ability to make precise comparisons. Practise collocations such as “the number of visitors,” “rose steadily,” and “remained stable,” and check spelling before finishing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both a simple opening statement and a longer sentence describing trends, but grammatical control is inconsistent. In “The line graph illustrate,” the singular subject requires “illustrates”; “the visitors staying on the island are fell or rose” combines an incorrect auxiliary with incompatible verb forms. The sentence beginning “while” is not properly connected to the preceding sentence, and “In 2010,” is an incomplete fragment. Capitalisation and punctuation are also unreliable, as in “conclusion , The” and the missing space after “.but.” These errors make parts of the message difficult to interpret. Build accurate simple sentences first, then practise joining comparisons with structures such as “while” and “whereas.”
