Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the overall rise in total visitors and distinguish the stronger growth in cruise-ship visitors from the relatively small change in island visitors. These are relevant main features. However, the report is very brief and gives almost no supporting figures or clear comparisons: for example, it does not state that the total rose from about 1 million to 3.5 million, or that cruise-ship numbers reached 2 million by 2017. The final observations are also incomplete, and the response contains only 74 words, 76 short of the 150-word minimum; 10 words copied from the task prompt were excluded. Develop the overview and describe key stages with accurate data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response, beginning with an introduction and an overview, followed by comments on the two visitor groups. The opening “Overall” also signals a summary appropriately. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the later points are presented as separate, incomplete fragments rather than developed sentences or a clearly structured report. The overview repeats the idea that island visitors rose slightly, and “growthvisitors staying on the island slightly rose” appears to combine two thoughts without a clear connection. Use distinct paragraphs for the overview and key details, and connect comparisons explicitly so the reader can follow how each series changed over time.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “increased,” “grew sharply,” “rose slightly,” and “dropped slightly.” These choices show an attempt to distinguish the different patterns in the graph. However, the range is limited and some expressions are imprecise or awkward, such as “visitors staying on cruise steep” and “a ticked up.” “The Line Graph” is also unnecessarily capitalised, while “guest” does not accurately label the visitor group. Aim for precise chart language and consistent labels, such as “cruise-ship visitors,” “visitors staying on the island,” “climbed steadily,” and “recovered slightly.” Check spelling and word forms so that trend descriptions are clear and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response includes some correctly formed simple sentences, such as “Overall, from 2010 to 2017, the total number of tourists increased.” However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and the range of sentence structures is very limited. The sentence “The rise in cruise ship visitors was the main driver of growthvisitors staying on the island slightly rose” has no clear grammatical connection between its ideas. “guest staying on island dropped slightly in between the year 2015 to1016” also has problems with articles, plural forms, and the time expression, making the meaning harder to process. Build complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and check articles, agreement, and punctuation before submitting.
