Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the chart’s subject and include a broad overview that the total rose considerably, while the two visitor groups followed different patterns. Several figures are also broadly accurate: the total was about 1 million in 2010 and 2.5 million in 2014, and island-based visitors reached around 1.5 million by 2017. However, the overview is not fully clear: island visitors did not simply “rise steadily in the final year”; they were stable for several years, dipped in 2016, then recovered. The account also ends mid-comparison, so the cruise-ship trend and the final total of 3.5 million are not reported. Select and explain the main changes more completely, especially the strong late growth in cruise visitors.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is an identifiable opening, overview and attempt to organise details by visitor category, and phrases such as “in contrast” signal comparison. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the response is presented as long, loosely connected stretches rather than clearly separated paragraphs. Several ideas are joined by commas, and the final sentence stops at “until,” leaving the comparison incomplete. Linking expressions are also repeated or inaccurately formed, including “in constast” and “in constract,” which distract from the relationships between points. Use distinct paragraphs for the overview and data, then group related figures in a logical sequence. Complete each comparison and use a small range of accurate connectors rather than relying on repeated contrast markers.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “total number,” “visitors staying on island,” “increased” and “remained stable,” so the topic is generally understandable. There is also an attempt to vary trend language with “rose” and “climbed.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are frequent and sometimes make the account harder to read: “visitiors,” “millon,” “rapildly,” and “sharly” obscure otherwise useful information. Some phrases are awkward or imprecise, such as “the total number of visitors visiting” and “the figure for cruise ship visitors.” Aim for accurate, concise collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, “the number of visitors” avoids repetition, while “cruise-ship visitors” is a more natural label.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to combine information in longer sentences and use time references such as “in 2010” and “in 2014.” However, control of sentence structure is limited, and errors recur in clauses that carry the main data. For example, “the visitors who are staying on island are remained stable” combines incompatible verb forms, while “after reached at 1.4” lacks a correctly formed clause. Comma splices also join several independent statements, and punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent. These problems sometimes make the relationships between figures unclear. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, then add subordinate clauses accurately—for instance, “After reaching 1.5 million, the figure remained stable until 2015.”
