Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the chart’s subject and report several relevant trends, including the overall rise in total visitors and the growth in cruise-ship visitors towards 2017. However, some key comparisons are inaccurate or unclear. Cruise-ship visitors were not generally more numerous than island visitors: the island figure was higher until 2017, when cruise visitors reached about 2 million. The island series began at about 0.75 million, not 1 million, and stayed around 1.5 million from 2013 to 2015 before dipping in 2016. Your overview also says the total was “more than both” categories, which is true but does not highlight the main change. Select the clearest overall patterns and report figures accurately to make the summary more complete and developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic sequence: an introduction, a general statement, and then details about the three series. This gives the reader some organisation, and the years help locate changes. However, progression is not consistently clear because the information is packed into one long paragraph and several transitions are awkward or repetitive. For example, “in 2012 the numbers are declined again in 2012” repeats the year, while “Here was a continuous improvement” does not clearly connect the figures that follow. Grouping the two visitor categories together and then describing the total in a separate paragraph would make comparisons easier to follow. Use linking phrases selectively and ensure each sentence adds a distinct point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant chart vocabulary such as “visitors,” “total,” “declined,” and “improved,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which makes parts of the report difficult to interpret. “Continuous improvement” is not a natural way to describe rising visitor numbers; “steady increase” would be clearer. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “Cribbean,” “visiter,” “agian,” “reaced,” and “improvment.” Repeated use of “numbers” and “visitors” also limits variety. Practise accurate trend language and check spelling, while keeping the vocabulary precise rather than using more elaborate phrases that do not fit the data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts some longer sentences, but the range is limited and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. For example, “the number of visitors staying on cruise ships start” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “the numbers are declined” uses an incorrect verb form. The sentence “The visitors staying on island started with 1 million” also lacks an article in “on the island.” Punctuation and spacing are inconsistent, particularly around the transition after “2011.” Most sentences rely on simple past-tense statements, with little accurate variation in structure. Build control of past-tense reporting and agreement first, then practise combining related comparisons into longer sentences without losing grammatical accuracy.
