Student answer (Band 6.0)
The Line chart illustrates information about the number of visitors who visit a specific Caribbean island between 2010 and 2017.
Overall, we can see that the trend is far more increasing for all the three categories of visitors.
Visitors who stay on the cruise ships got a significant rose over the time period. In Contrast, the visitors who stay on the island got a similar gain but not more than the other category.
Moreover, the trend is showing that the visitors who stay on the cruise ships were less than half of the million in 2010 but got such a gain that they ended up at around 2 million in 2017. On the other hand, the visitors who stay on island face some kind of fluctuation over the time.
Furthermore, the visitors who stay on island start from more than half of a million in 2010 and ended up about 1.5 million. Apart from the above two catogeries we got also a total trend combining both the categories of visitors. As it starts from 1 million in 2010 and ended up at 3.5 million.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover the main series and give a clear overall picture: all three totals rise, cruise-ship visitors increase markedly, and island-staying visitors change less. The opening and closing figures for each group are mostly accurate, including the total rising from 1 million to 3.5 million. This meets the task well, and the comparison that cruise visitors remain below island visitors until the final year is implicit in your account. To make the overview more complete, state that cruise-ship visitors overtake island visitors in 2017, and describe the island figure’s modest fluctuations more precisely: it rises to 1.5 million, dips slightly, then returns to that level. Some comparisons are mentioned but not fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable progression from an introduction and overview to details about the two visitor groups and the combined total. Linking phrases such as “Overall,” “On the other hand,” and “Furthermore” help signal relationships between points. However, the paragraphing is limited, and several transitions feel mechanical or repetitive, particularly the repeated “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “Apart from the above two categories.” The discussion also moves between the cruise and island figures before returning to the total, rather than grouping the information in a consistently clear sequence. Organise the body into focused paragraphs and use comparisons to connect the series directly; this would make the progression easier to follow and cohesion less dependent on formulaic linkers.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing a graph, including “trend,” “fluctuation,” “categories,” and “ended up,” so the main information remains understandable. There is some attempt to vary expression, but several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for this task: “got a significant rose,” “far more increasing,” and “face some kind of fluctuation.” “In Contrast” is also capitalised unnecessarily, while “catogeries” is misspelled. These issues make the description less precise and fluent, even though they do not prevent the reader from understanding the trends. Aim for standard chart language and accurate collocations, such as “rose significantly,” “increased steadily,” and “fluctuated slightly.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including contrast structures with “In contrast” and “On the other hand,” and most of the intended meaning is clear. However, some grammatical errors remain. For example, “the trend is far more increasing” has an awkward comparative construction, while “the visitors … start … and ended up” shifts tense within the same description. In “the visitors who stay on island,” the article is missing, and “As it starts from 1 million … and ended up” is an incomplete sentence with inconsistent tense. Use past-tense verbs consistently for the historical data, check articles, and make sure each sentence has a complete main clause. These corrections would improve accuracy while preserving your range of sentence forms.
