Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You cover the main series and give a clear overall picture: total visitor numbers rose from 1 million to 3.5 million, while cruise-ship visitors increased markedly and island-staying visitors changed less. Several figures and trends are accurately selected, including the total’s stability from 2015 to 2016 and the island figure returning to 1.5 million in 2017. This meets the task well, with some features reported more fully than others. However, the island-staying figure began at about 0.75 million, not “almost half” a million, and the cruise-ship series did not simply have “many ups and downs”: it fluctuated early, then rose steadily from 2012. More precise reporting of these details would make the account more complete and support a stronger overview.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate discussion of the total and the two visitor categories. This gives the reader a coherent route through the information, and phrases such as “Overall” and “On the other hand” help signal relationships. However, the linking is sometimes mechanical or not quite suited to the relationship being described; “On the other hand” is used to introduce another data series rather than a clear contrast. Some long sentences combine several stages and comparisons, making the progression harder to follow. For example, the sentence about island visitors moves from the starting point through 2015 and then to 2017 without clear punctuation. Use shorter, clearly grouped comparisons and more precise transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “increase significantly,” “stability,” “declined,” and “reached,” so the reader can generally understand the main changes. However, the range and control are limited by repeated use of “amount” and “visitor,” and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “facing some falls,” “rised,” and “reached at.” Spelling errors—including “vistors,” “stayted,” and “follwing”—also make the writing less polished and occasionally slow the reader. Aim for accurate, natural phrases such as “the number of visitors rose” and “reached 3.5 million.” A wider set of correctly used trend verbs and careful proofreading would improve precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses linked with “while,” “than,” and “after,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, grammatical control is uneven, particularly in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries. For example, “The line graph illustrate” needs subject–verb agreement, while “the total number … and they reached” shifts awkwardly between singular and plural reference. The sentence beginning “The total number of visitors rised considerably” also contains several clauses joined without clear punctuation, and “started from … on 2010” shows problems with article and preposition patterns. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build complex sentences around one clear comparison at a time.
