Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the chart’s subject and cover the overall rise in total visitors, as well as the changing contributions of island and cruise-ship visitors. Several figures are accurate, including the 2010 breakdown and the cruise-ship total of 2 million in 2017. However, the overview is unclear and some details are inaccurate or incomplete: island visitors did not “dip slightly” after 2011; they rose to 1.25 million in 2012, then reached 1.5 million in 2013 and remained around that level, apart from a small fall in 2016. The total also reached 2.75 million in 2015 and stayed there in 2016 before rising. A clearer overview and more precise reporting of these key stages would make the summary more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details and a concluding statement. It also attempts to connect information with phrases such as “Moreover,” “on the other hand” and “As a result.” However, progression within the main paragraph is difficult to follow: island and cruise-ship figures are mixed together, and the sequence of years is not consistently signposted. Some linking phrases are inaccurate or awkward, while repeated references to “visitors” make the account feel repetitive. The overview’s “While … However” construction also creates an unclear relationship between ideas. Organise the body into a clearer chronological account or separate the two visitor categories, and use linking expressions only where they accurately show contrast or sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “total number,” “increase,” “constant,” “fluctuation” and “reached,” so the reader can identify the main subject and trends. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate enough to make parts difficult to understand. For example, “tourists around one million visits island” and “visitors on cruise ship received 0.25 million” do not express the data naturally; “the top touch” and “with time it over tacking” are also unclear. Spelling errors such as “repidely” and “wither” further reduce precision. Practise standard trend language such as “stood at,” “remained stable,” “rose to” and “overtook,” and check spelling and collocations before finishing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, but control is inconsistent, and errors frequently make relationships between ideas hard to follow. Examples include “the total number of visitors increase,” where the verb form does not agree with the subject, and “visitors staying on island were more in 2010 However,” where the clause structure and punctuation are faulty. There are also problems with articles and sentence boundaries, as in “The total number of tourists around one million visits island,” and with verb forms in “visitors whose staying on island remain constant.” Capitalisation after full stops is inconsistent, and some sentences run together. Build accuracy first with clear past-tense sentences, then combine them using correctly formed clauses and consistent punctuation.
