Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the graph’s three series and report several broad patterns, including the overall rise in total visitors and the cruise-ship figure reaching 2 million in 2017. However, the overview mainly describes how the graph is laid out rather than highlighting its key trends. Some figures are inaccurate: island visitors were about 0.75 million in both 2010 and 2011, not more than 0.5 million followed by 0.5; their peak was 1.5 million, not a maximum reached only after 2011. The total was stable from 2015 to 2016, but it was about 2.75 million, not simply “more than 2.5.” Select the main comparisons and report values more precisely to make the summary more complete and reliable.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, a general paragraph, and separate descriptions of the three lines. This gives the reader some sense of organisation, and phrases such as “Overall” and “after 2012” signal relationships. However, progression is weakened by the overview focusing on the graph’s layout and by moving through each series with repeated “the line” descriptions rather than grouping related trends. Several sentences are difficult to follow, especially the cruise-ship account, where changes are described in a confusing sequence. Use a concise overview of the main trends, then organise details by meaningful comparisons, such as the steady rise in cruise visitors versus the relative stability of island visitors. Clearer sentence boundaries and references would also help.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “visitors,” “stable,” “increase,” and “maximum value,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “line,” “percentage,” and “started.” Some choices are inaccurate for this graph: “percentage” is used for visitor numbers, which are measured in millions, and “the last line” is less precise than “the total.” Spelling errors such as “ialand,” “lslam,” and “naxt” also make parts harder to read. Build a small set of accurate trend terms and use them consistently—for example, “number,” “rose,” “remained stable,” and “fell”—while checking spelling and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the reader can identify the broad subject of most sentences. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, with frequent errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “The line graph illustrate” needs subject–verb agreement, while “It is start” and “the graph is devided” use incorrect verb forms. Several clauses run together without clear punctuation, as in the description beginning “It is start in the bottom line,” making the sequence difficult to interpret. There is also inconsistent capitalisation after “Overall.” Practise accurate simple past-tense descriptions first, then combine them with controlled clauses using “while” or “whereas.”
