Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the overall rise in total visitors and report figures for all three categories, including the total reaching about 3.5 million in 2017 and cruise-ship visitors rising to about 2 million. However, the account only partially selects and compares the main features. The overview is unclear and includes a contradiction: you first say cruise-ship visitors were the least, then conclude that island visitors were the least, although island visitors were higher than cruise visitors in 2010 and 2011. Some figures are also inaccurate: the total in 2014 was about 2.5 million, not 2.7 million, and the total was level at about 2.75 million from 2015 to 2016 rather than increasing continuously. Give a clear overview and compare the series accurately across the period.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the chart, gives a brief overview, and then describes the total and the two visitor groups. This provides some organisation, but the progression is difficult to follow because the overview is unclear and the final comparison contradicts the earlier statement about which group had the fewest visitors. Repeated sentence openings such as “In 2010” and “In 2017” make the account feel list-like, while links such as “And” and “But” do not always show the relationship between ideas precisely. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and the detailed trends, and connect comparisons directly—for example, explain when cruise visitors overtook island visitors.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “total number of visitors,” “approximately,” “increases,” and “peaks,” so the reader can identify the subject of each description. However, the range is limited and several repeated or inaccurate expressions make the report less clear, such as “visiting capacity” for visitor numbers and “has second number of visiting.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “visting,” “graddualy,” “crusie,” and “incriment.” Choose precise chart language and check spelling: for example, use “the number of visitors rose” rather than “increased its visiting capacity,” and “the highest figure” rather than “his peaks.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Most sentences use simple patterns, and attempts to describe changes are often affected by errors in agreement, tense, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “The below graph illustrate” needs subject–verb agreement, while “Total millions of visitors has more visiting” does not form a clear grammatical sentence. In “they reach his peaks,” the pronoun and verb pattern are also incorrect. These recurring problems sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to follow. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and basic comparison structures, such as “The total rose from about 1 million in 2010 to 2.5 million in 2014,” before adding more complex clauses.
