Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the chart’s overall rise and report several relevant movements, including cruise-ship visitors reaching 2 million in 2017 and island-staying visitors fluctuating around 1.5 million. However, the overview is not fully accurate: the total rises to a high of 3.5 million in 2017, rather than peaking in 2016. Some descriptions are also unclear or imprecise, such as “the total account” when referring to a visitor category. The response is one word below the required 150-word minimum; the eight words copied from the task prompt are excluded from the count. To strengthen the report, give a concise, accurate overview and distinguish clearly between the total and the two categories throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic, useful structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate discussion of cruise-ship and island visitors. This helps the reader follow the two categories. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes difficult to track because several linking phrases are used mechanically, including “Moreover,” “In addition to this,” and “Furthermore.” References such as “the total” and “previous total” are unclear, making it hard to tell whether you mean all visitors or one category. Group related years and comparisons more deliberately, and use precise references such as “cruise-ship visitors” or “the overall total” to make the connections between points clearer.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “increased markedly,” “declined,” and “remained the same,” so the main trends can generally be understood. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the description confusing. For example, “explorers” does not mean tourists, “the total account of visitor” is not a natural way to describe a category, and “inclined” is unsuitable for a rising figure. There are also spelling errors such as “visting,” “impoving,” and “slighlty.” Use precise terms consistently and check spelling; alternatives such as “number of visitors,” “rose,” and “visitor total” would be more appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, using time clauses and contrast, as in “but afterwards it remained the same from 2013 to 2015.” The main trends are usually understandable, but errors in sentence construction and punctuation reduce accuracy. For instance, “Overall, the total” needs a space after the comma, and “The number of tourists staying on cruise ship inclined” lacks a natural grammatical construction and an article before “cruise ship.” The sentence beginning “But there was change in 2016” also needs “a change.” Review articles, singular and plural forms, and punctuation, and aim to make each sentence express one clear comparison.
