Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the overall rise in visitor numbers and report several relevant figures, including the total increasing from about 1 million in 2010 to 3.5 million in 2017. The cruise-ship trend is also broadly captured, with its endpoint correctly given as 2 million. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: island visitors reached 1.5 million in 2014, stayed at that level in 2015, fell to 1.25 million in 2016, and returned to 1.5 million in 2017—not 2 million. The overview also misses the useful comparison that cruise-ship visitors rose markedly while island-staying numbers were comparatively stable after 2013. More precise reporting of these patterns would make the summary more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of the two visitor categories and the total. This gives the information a generally coherent arrangement, and phrases such as “Overall” and “On the other hand” help signal relationships. However, the contrast marker does not clearly explain the relationship between the two trends, and the final paragraph combines island figures with the total, making the progression less easy to follow. Some sequencing phrases, including “kept moving to upward,” are awkward and do not guide the reader smoothly. Grouping the island and cruise-ship trends in a clear comparison, then reporting the total, would improve cohesion and make references between figures more precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main subject, including “visitors,” “cruise ship,” “island,” “fluctuated,” and “uptrend.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “lines chart,” “have bean visited,” “kept moving to upward,” and “explorers” for tourists. Spelling errors in “rema ins” (written as “reamins”), “vistors,” and “Caribbean” also reduce accuracy. Repeated use of “visitors” and “move to upward” makes the description less precise. Use standard chart language and vary accurate trend verbs, for example “rose,” “remained stable,” and “declined slightly.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, and the main message is generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in verb forms and sentence construction. For example, “who have bean visited” does not form a correct relative clause, while “then move to upward” lacks the appropriate past-tense verb and grammatical pattern. In “the island were about 0.75 million,” the subject and verb do not agree, and “then fluctuated in 2015 and 2016 with 1.25 million explorers” does not clearly express the changing figures. The response relies heavily on similar sentence patterns, with limited control of complex structures. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build comparisons using clauses such as “whereas” and “before rising.”
