Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the period and both visitor categories, and you include several figures, so the response is relevant to the graph. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: cruise-ship visitors were not consistently “high” compared with island visitors; island stays were higher until 2016, when cruise visitors overtook them. Several figures are misreported or confusing, including “2012 12 lac” for island visitors (about 1.25 million) and the claim that the 2015 total was 2.5 million (about 2.75 million). The final figure of 3.5 million is the total, not visitors staying on the island. To strengthen the report, give a clear overview of the overall rise and the changing relationship between the two groups, then select accurate key comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response follows a broadly chronological order and mentions cruise-ship visitors before island visitors, which gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, ideas are crowded into one paragraph and the progression is difficult to follow. The opening overview combines several vague claims, while the data section often runs figures together without clear sentence boundaries, as in “2012 the visitors decreas then 2013 again increase.” Linking phrases such as “in addition” and “at the end” are used, but they do not consistently clarify how the information relates. Separate the introduction, overview and detail into paragraphs, and group the figures into clear trend descriptions with accurate transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “visitors,” “categories,” “fluctuation,” “increment” and “decrement,” and the reader can generally recognise the subject. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the data hard to interpret. For example, “the opposite of it” is unclear, and “following increment as well as decrement” is an awkward way to describe changes. “Lac” is also unsuitable here and creates confusion when reporting values in millions. Spelling errors such as “vistors” and “decreas” further reduce precision. Use standard graph language such as “rose,” “fell,” “remained stable,” and “approximately 1.25 million,” and avoid repeating the same nouns unnecessarily.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

There are attempts to form longer sentences and to use time references, but sentence control is weak and errors frequently affect clarity. Examples include “visitors staying on cruise ships in 2010 was” (subject–verb agreement), “2012 the visitors decreas then 2013 again increase” (missing sentence structure and incorrect verb forms), and “3 years they remain stable” (unclear construction and tense). Articles, plurals and punctuation are also inconsistently controlled; for instance, several sentences run together without spaces after full stops. Most reporting relies on fragments or simple patterns rather than a controlled range of structures. Build complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, keep past-tense forms consistent, and check agreement and sentence boundaries.
