IELTS Writing Task 1 question

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The graph chart illustrates the data of visitors whom are taking a trip to a specific island of Caribbean from 2010 to 2017.At a glance, overall number of tourists are increasing through the year. However, staycations on cruise ships has become more popular through the year than the number of visitos residing on the island.
Overall,it is clear that the total data is estimated with two segments of visitors where one group of visitors prefer to stay on the island and others priorotising to stay on cruise ships. Moreover, the graph has a total estimation which is demonstrating the boosted number of visitors in seven years.Nevertheless, staying on a cruise ship was less likely to be popular among tour enthusiasts in 2010 which kept fluctuating for three years onwards which ended up being at the peak in 2017.Additionally,visitors whom are interested to stay back in island was having much attention by tourists which continued to rise till 2015 but in 2016,the numbers fall slightly and then again rose at a similar point like previous years before 2016.
In conclusion, albeit in the midst of fluctuating orders the total number of visitors kept rising rather than falling.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main overall rise in tourist numbers and distinguish visitors staying on the island from those on cruise ships. You also note the cruise-ship figure’s strong growth and the island-stayer figure’s slight fall in 2016. However, the account is only partly developed: it gives few precise comparisons or figures, and the overview does not clearly state that the total rose from about 1 million to 3.5 million. The claim that cruise-ship stays became more popular than island stays is not accurate for the period as a whole; cruise visitors only exceeded island visitors in 2017. Focus on the key turning points and compare the two groups with accurate data to make the summary more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has an overall structure, with an opening, a broad overview, further description and a concluding sentence. This makes the main topic and general upward trend easy to identify. However, the progression is not always clear: the second paragraph repeats the overview before moving between the two visitor groups, and the conclusion restates the rise without adding a useful comparison. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Nevertheless,” and “Additionally” are frequent but do not always show a clear relationship between ideas. Organise the body around the total trend and then the two categories, using direct comparisons and clear references so the reader can follow the changes more smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of vocabulary, including “fluctuating,” “peak,” “continued to rise,” and “fall slightly,” which are relevant to describing a graph. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural and sometimes obscure the intended meaning: “staycations on cruise ships,” “priorotising,” “total data,” and “boosted number” do not fit the chart description. There are also spelling errors, including “visitos” and “priorotising.” Prefer precise, conventional terms such as “tourists,” “visitors staying on cruise ships,” and “total number.” More accurate collocations and careful spelling would make your descriptions clearer and more appropriate for an academic report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “which” and “albeit.” However, errors are frequent and can make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For example, “visitors whom are taking” uses an incorrect relative pronoun and verb form, while “overall number of tourists are increasing” has an article and subject–verb agreement problem. In “staying on a cruise ship was less likely … which kept fluctuating,” the reference of “which” is unclear, and several sentences run together without spaces after full stops. Work on agreement, articles, relative clauses and sentence boundaries; shorter, accurately punctuated sentences would help you communicate the trends more reliably.
