Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the overall rise in total visitors and report the starting and ending totals, while also mentioning both visitor categories. However, the overview is incomplete: saying island visitors were the “lowest section” at the end is not a clear comparison, and the response does not highlight that cruise-ship numbers rose markedly while island-staying figures were comparatively stable. Some figures are inaccurate or unclear: cruise visitors began at about 0.25 million, not “quarter past,” and island visitors began at about 0.75 million, not a quarter. The response also ends abruptly and contains fewer than the required 150 words, leaving the main features under-reported. Add a complete overview and select accurate comparisons across the period.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response, moving from an introduction and overview to details about the totals and the two visitor groups. The linking words “overall,” “at the beginning,” and “however” help signal this sequence. Nevertheless, progression is difficult to follow because the overview is unclear and the details are compressed into one paragraph. The sentence beginning “Where visitors staying on island…” is not properly connected to the preceding information, and the final fragment, “IN th e,” interrupts the response. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and key details, group related comparisons, and ensure each sentence is complete. This would make the information easier to follow rather than relying on a few basic transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “visitors,” “total number,” “staying on cruise ships,” and “reached,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or awkward. “Quarter past” does not express a figure of 0.25 million, while “lowest section” is not a natural way to describe the island-staying category. There are also spelling errors such as “carribbean” and “intitially,” and “session” is an imprecise substitute for the period shown. Aim for accurate terms such as “approximately 0.25 million,” “category,” and “by the end of the period.” Check spelling and use collocations suited to describing data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, for example, “At the beginning, Total visitors started from 1 million and reached 3.5 million…” However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. In “visitors staying on island is also started,” the subject and verb do not agree and the passive construction is unnecessary; write “the number of visitors staying on the island also started…” The opening phrase “in 2010 to 2017” needs “from 2010 to 2017,” and “reached 3.5 million at the end” would be more naturally expressed as “reached 3.5 million by the end.” Capitalisation and punctuation are also erratic, including “overall” after a full stop and the unfinished final fragment. Practise accurate complete sentences and consistent punctuation.
