Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover both visitor categories and give an overview that identifies the overall rise in total visitors and the contrasting movement of the two groups. The cruise-ship figures are broadly tracked from a low starting point to 2 million, and the island-stay account includes the plateau, dip and recovery. However, the overview misstates the main comparison: cruise-ship visitors did not dominate throughout; island visitors were more numerous until 2016, when the figures were equal, before cruise visitors became the larger group in 2017. Some details are also inaccurate, such as the cruise figure of about 0.2 million in 2010 (approximately 0.25) and the 2012 low of 0.19 million (approximately 0.25). A more precise overview and checked figures would strengthen the report.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response is organised into a brief introduction, an overview and separate paragraphs for each visitor group, which makes the main categories easy to follow. The chronological sequencing within the detail paragraphs is also generally clear, and links such as “However” and “In 2017” help signal changes. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent overall arrangement and shows some stronger control through clear paragraphing. To make progression more consistently smooth, avoid abrupt or repetitive transitions and connect related changes more explicitly. For example, the cruise-ship paragraph moves from the 2013 recovery to 2014 without clearly stating the 2013 value, while the overview’s comparison is not supported by the later account. More precise referencing and links between the two series would improve cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of trend vocabulary, including “increased dramatically,” “decline,” “steady growth” and “regained,” so the reader can understand the broad movements. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “Cruise Ships staying visitors,” “dominated,” and “recovering back its position.” Spelling errors in “Carribean,” “miliion” and “milion” are noticeable, and the repeated use of “number” and “trend” limits flexibility. Aim for standard chart-reporting phrases and accurate spelling of key terms. For example, describe the groups as “visitors staying on cruise ships” and use “rose to” or “recovered to” when reporting a figure.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mix of simple statements and longer sentences with time clauses, such as “The trend remained approximately steady from 2012 till 2015. However a decline was seen…” This gives the report some structural variety, and the intended meaning is usually recoverable. However, errors in agreement, articles and sentence construction recur: “The total number of visitors have been increasing” should use a singular verb, and “staying on island” needs an article. Some sentences are fragments or awkwardly joined, including “Recovering back its position in 2013 the visitors have shown…” Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly spacing after commas and full stops. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and build complete, clearly punctuated sentences around each comparison.
