Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You cover all three series and identify the broad rise in cruise-ship visitors and the overall total, which gives the report relevant content. However, the account is only partly accurate and the main overview is limited. For example, cruise-ship visitors did not rise steadily from 2015: they increased from 1.25 million to 1.5 million and then 2 million, while the total plateaued at about 2.75 million in 2015–16 before rising. The island figures are also described as unchanged from 2013 to 2015, but they were 1.5 million throughout those years; the stated 2010–11 figure is closer to 0.75 million. Give a concise overview of the key contrasts and report the main turning points more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic structure, with separate paragraphs for cruise-ship visitors, island visitors and the total, followed by a conclusion. This helps the reader identify which series is being discussed. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and linking expressions are repetitive or awkward. Phrases such as “In years of” recur, while “Then, in The trend in year 2016” interrupts the sequence and makes the relationship between ideas difficult to follow. The conclusion repeats the cruise-ship trend rather than bringing together the main comparisons. Organise the report around an overview followed by clearly ordered details, and use straightforward time markers such as “By 2014” and “After remaining stable” to make changes easier to track.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt a range of vocabulary relevant to describing trends, including “upward trend,” “fluctuated,” “proportions” and “dramatically increase.” This shows an effort to use more than basic terms. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the intended meaning hard to interpret: “frequency of visitors,” “visitors allocated on cruise ships” and “double grew” are not suitable descriptions of the data. Several trend phrases are also used imprecisely, such as “fluctuated up” for a steady increase. Choose common, accurate chart language and use it consistently—for example, “the number of visitors staying on cruise ships rose” or “the total remained stable.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

There are attempts to connect ideas in longer sentences, but control of sentence structure is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some passages difficult to understand. For example, “The trend in year 2014 showed the double grew” has an unclear verb construction, while “From 2013-20115 the proportions of visitors remain same” contains problems with the time expression, tense and sentence structure. Articles and prepositions are also often missing or misplaced, as in “at Caribbean island” and “in the contrast.” Use past-tense verbs consistently for the historical data, and practise building clear subject–verb sentences before adding clauses. Check each sentence for a complete grammatical structure and accurate punctuation.
