Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the chart’s subject and mention the two visitor groups, and you correctly note that cruise-ship visitors rise overall and reach about 2 million in 2017. However, the response addresses the task only minimally: it stops before describing the island-staying figures beyond 2011, and the overview inaccurately says this group first rises and then falls without noting its later recovery to 1.5 million. The cruise-ship trend is also described imprecisely: after reaching 0.5 million in 2011, it dips in 2012, then rises steadily. The response is 95 words, below the required 150. To improve, complete both series, compare them with the total, and give a concise overview of the main changes.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation: an opening statement is followed by an overview and then detail paragraphs, and transitions such as “Overall” and “on the other hand” signal relationships. However, progression is incomplete because the final paragraph breaks off after “Then follow the steadily amounts in 2011,” leaving the island-staying trend unfinished. Connections between events are also sometimes unclear, as in “In 2010, visitors staying on cruise ships to risen. it follows gradually amounts…” The overview’s contrast is useful, but it does not accurately guide the reader through the full data. Develop each paragraph into complete, logically ordered comparisons, and use linking phrases to show changes over time rather than relying on fragments.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “visitors,” “cruise ships,” “island,” “millions,” “drop,” and “peak,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms make the description difficult to follow: “shows upgrade,” “different types of visitors staying loction,” “gradually amounts rich,” and “steadily amounts” are not natural expressions for describing data. Spelling errors such as “caribbean,” “milllions,” and “dramatoically” also reduce clarity. Build a small set of accurate trend phrases, such as “increased gradually,” “fell to,” and “remained stable,” and check spelling and collocations before finishing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts simple sentences and a few time-linked structures, but grammatical control is weak and errors occur frequently. Examples include “it shows two differents types,” “visitors staying on cruise ships to risen,” and “Then follow the steadily amounts in 2011,” where verb forms and sentence construction are faulty. Sentence boundaries and capitalisation are also inconsistent, as in “2017.it” and “Then” after a full stop in the middle of a continuing idea. These problems sometimes make the intended meaning hard to interpret. Practise complete subject–verb sentences in the past tense, for example, “The figure rose to 0.5 million in 2011,” and use full stops and commas consistently.
