Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the overall rise in total visitors, from about 1 million in 2010 to 3.5 million in 2017, and describe the cruise-ship figure increasing to 2 million. These are relevant main features. However, the overview is unclear: “experienced the highest visitors at a peak” does not explain the key comparison, and the claim that cruise-ship visitors had “significant visitors” is imprecise. The account also omits the island-stay trend after 2010, including its rise to around 1.5 million, slight fall in 2016, and recovery in 2017. The final comparison is unfinished, so the response only partially covers the graph. Give a clear overview and report the main movements in both categories as well as the total.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details, and time markers such as “In 2010” and “by the end of period” help orient the reader. However, progression is uneven: the overview is difficult to interpret, and the final paragraph ends with an incomplete comparison (“compared to cruise ships visitors”). Linking words are sometimes used mechanically or inaccurately, as in “While” and “Furthermore,” and the long sentence about cruise-ship visitors contains several events without clear separation. Organise the body into a clearer sequence, for example by describing the total and cruise-ship trend first, then the island-stay trend. Complete comparisons and use transitions only where they clarify the relationship between ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “line graph,” “millions,” “gradually increased,” and “decline,” so the reader can recognise the topic and broad trends. However, the range is limited and several repeated or inaccurate phrases make the report less precise. “Significant visitors” does not naturally describe a number, while “good number of visitors” is informal and vague. Repetition of “visitors” and “number” also reduces flexibility. There are spelling and form errors, including “reaced,” “pervious,” and “Neverthless,” which affect the clarity and polish of the report. Use precise trend language and collocations, such as “the figure for cruise-ship visitors rose” or “the number of island-based visitors remained broadly stable.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to combine ideas using clauses and time expressions, but complex sentences are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some parts difficult to follow. For example, “the number of tourists had been visited” uses an incorrect passive construction, and “the total number of tourists visitors had about 1 million” has an unclear noun phrase and verb pattern. Articles, plurals, and agreement are also inconsistent in “on a cruise ships” and “the number of visitor.” The sentence beginning “While” is not properly connected to a main clause, and the final sentence is incomplete. Practise accurate simple comparisons first, then build longer sentences with clear subjects and verbs, such as “The total rose from one million in 2010 to 3.5 million in 2017.”
