Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover the graph’s main components and give an overall trend: total visitor numbers rise from about 1 million to 3.5 million, while cruise-ship visitors increase substantially. Several figures are also reported accurately, including the cruise-ship total reaching 2 million in 2017. However, some comparisons and details are unclear or inaccurate. The island-stayer figure is described as falling to around 1 million, whereas the graph shows a modest decline to about 1.25 million in 2016, followed by a rise to 1.5 million. The claim that cruise-ship visitors were higher than island visitors is only true at the end, not across the period. A clearer overview and more precise account of these changes would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the two visitor categories and the total. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. You also use linking expressions such as “on the one hand,” “on the other hand,” and “however.” At times, though, connections are mechanical or unclear, and some sentences combine several points without a clear relationship. For example, the final paragraph moves from the initial total to a supposed decline in 2016 and then to the 2017 figure, making the trend difficult to follow. Repeated references to the same category also interrupt flow. Organise each paragraph around a clear trend and use more precise links between changes and comparisons.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing data, including “steady increase,” “decline,” “reached,” and “approximately.” These choices show an attempt to report trends rather than simply list figures. However, spelling errors and inaccurate or awkward word choices are noticeable throughout, including “visisting,” “perportion,” “constantaly,” and “criese shipe.” Some phrases are also difficult to interpret, such as “showed appropriate increase” and “higher than compare to.” Repetition of “visitors staying on island” limits the range of expression. Build accuracy with common chart language and check spelling and collocations carefully; clearer choices will help the reader understand your comparisons without changing the underlying data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the response is generally recognisable as a description of trends. However, control of sentence structure is inconsistent. Several clauses are incomplete or joined awkwardly, as in “However, showed decline by year 2012 same as 2010,” and “Afterward showed increase at year 2015 by 1.5 million.” Verb forms and agreement also need attention, for example “numbers … were in steady increase” and “started to rose.” Articles, prepositions, and punctuation are often missing or misplaced, which makes some relationships between figures unclear. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use past-tense forms consistently when describing the years shown.
