Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the chart’s general subject and attempt an overview, but the main features are not reported accurately or clearly enough. The statement that island visitors were “in top position” in 2010 is correct, and cruise-ship numbers did rise overall. However, you say the total remained constant after 2015, whereas it was about 2.75 million in both 2015 and 2016 before rising to 3.5 million in 2017. You also describe island visitors as declining from 2015 to a low in 2016, which is only a small dip, and omit the final recovery. The conclusion that the data fluctuates conflicts with the overall upward trend. The response is also 23 words below the required minimum. Select the key trends and support them with accurate comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response with an opening, an overview, a body paragraph and a concluding phrase. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the overview and conclusion do not clearly summarise the same pattern, and the body shifts abruptly between the two visitor groups. For example, “Same as the visitors staying on cruise was in upward direction” is an incomplete, disconnected sentence, while “To conclude” introduces a claim that the data fluctuates without explaining the overall rise. Linking expressions such as “Overall” and “Also” are present, but they do not consistently clarify relationships between points. Group the total trend and the two categories in a logical order, and use complete sentences with clear references.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is sufficient to identify the chart’s subject and categories, using terms such as “visitors,” “cruise ships,” “decline” and “upward.” However, the range is limited and several choices are unnatural or imprecise, which sometimes makes the intended meaning harder to understand. “Top position” is not a natural way to describe the largest figure, and “critical condition” does not appropriately describe a small change in visitor numbers. “Upward directioin” also contains a spelling error, and “people visiting on island” is an awkward phrase. Use standard chart language such as “highest,” “fell slightly,” “remained stable” and “increased steadily.” More precise vocabulary would help you describe comparisons without relying on vague expressions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, but control is inconsistent, and errors in verb forms, agreement and sentence construction are frequent enough to affect clarity. For example, “the number of people visiting on island has been increased” uses an incorrect passive form; write “the number of visitors staying on the island increased.” In “visitors staying on island is on top position,” the plural subject does not agree with “is,” and the article is missing. The sentence beginning “Same as” is not grammatically complete, while “It has been increased significantly till 2015 remaining constant within one year” combines ideas without clear tense or punctuation. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions and build complete sentences before adding clauses.
