Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main overall rise in total visitors and describe the contrasting patterns: cruise-ship numbers grow strongly, while island-stay figures level off and fluctuate. The overview also notes that cruise visitors eventually exceed those staying on the island, which is an important comparison. Most figures are broadly accurate, including the total reaching 3.5 million in 2017 and cruise visitors reaching 2 million. To make the report more fully developed, clarify that cruise visitors first exceed island visitors in 2016, rather than leaving the timing implicit, and distinguish the total’s rise to 2.75 million in 2015–16 from its later increase. Some descriptions, such as the island-stay plateau, could be more precise about the years involved.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two detail sections, with the total and the two visitor categories covered in a generally logical order. Comparisons such as “in contrast” and “on the other hand” help signal shifts between series. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical because several sentences begin with “furthermore” or “however,” and the long final paragraph combines many changes without clear breaks. References such as “it” and “this range” are occasionally unclear, making the reader work out which figures are being discussed. Grouping the total trend separately and then comparing the two accommodation types, with shorter sentences and clearer references, would make progression easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant trend vocabulary, including “increased,” “plateaued,” “downfall,” and “peaked,” and the reader can generally understand the intended comparisons. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive: “the amount of visitors visited,” “the numbers started to grow,” and “it toped the visitors” do not express the data naturally. There are also spelling and form errors, including “stabled,” “falss,” and “toped.” Use precise chart language consistently, such as “the number of visitors,” “remained stable,” and “overtook.” A wider set of accurate verbs for rising, falling, and levelling off would improve clarity and make the report sound more academic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including clauses linked with “while,” “after that,” and “from where.” However, grammatical control is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to process. For example, “the amount of visitors visited” has an incorrect noun phrase and verb pattern, while “the total no of people visited” is missing a relative construction such as “who visited.” Subject–verb agreement and tense are also inconsistent in “it remains stabled” and “the numbers started to grow.” Several sentences run on, with punctuation missing around full stops, as in “2 million.on the other hand.” Practise accurate sentence boundaries, articles, agreement, and past-tense reporting.
