Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify the main overall pattern: total visitor numbers rose substantially, reaching 3.5 million in 2017, while island-based visitors increased more moderately and cruise-ship visitors grew strongly. The key figures for the island category and the total are broadly accurate, and you note the total’s pause from 2015 to 2016. This covers the main features, but the overview is not fully precise: saying both visitor categories “decreased once” is misleading, since island visitors dip in 2016, whereas cruise-ship numbers fluctuate early on and then rise continuously. The cruise-ship account would also be clearer with a few intermediate figures or a direct comparison showing that this group overtook island visitors by 2017. More precise selection and comparison would strengthen the report.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate discussion of the visitor categories and total. This gives the reader a generally coherent route through the information. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes weakened by mechanical or unclear linking. For example, “moreover” is used to connect events that are simply sequential, and “while” in the overview does not clearly express the relationship between the trends. Some sentences also combine several stages without clear punctuation, particularly the account of visitors staying on the island. Use time markers such as “by 2015,” “after a brief fluctuation,” and “in contrast” where they accurately describe the data, and keep each sentence focused on one comparison or trend.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “fluctuated,” “increased,” “reached,” and “total number,” so the main trends are usually understandable. There are also attempts at more emphatic language, such as “shot up” and “impressive change,” but these are less suitable for a formal data report and are not always precise. Several spelling and word-form errors—“iseland,” “Visiters,” “rosed,” and “remaind”—reduce accuracy. Some phrases are also awkward, including “showed an impressive change in every year” and “reached at 2 million of visitors.” Aim for precise, neutral collocations and check spelling carefully; this would make your vocabulary more controlled and appropriate to IELTS Academic Task 1.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the reader can generally follow the main comparisons. However, control is inconsistent, especially in longer sentences. For example, “overall, the total number of visitors increased dramatically over the period of seven-years while…” has faulty punctuation and an awkwardly joined clause; “it again reached at 1.5 million” also uses an incorrect grammatical pattern. There are problems with verb forms and agreement in “visitors … rosed” and “total number of visitors were one million,” as well as missing or misplaced articles and commas. Practise building accurate sentences around one trend at a time, then add subordinate clauses only when their grammar and punctuation are secure.
