Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the two visitor categories and report several relevant features, including cruise-ship visitors rising from about 0.25 million to 2 million, a dip in 2012, and island-staying visitors being higher at the start but lower than cruise visitors by 2017. However, the account is only partly complete: it gives little attention to the total, which rose overall from 1 million to 3.5 million, and the overview is unclear. The claim that island visitors “faced a fall during these years” is misleading, since their figure generally increased before fluctuating around 1.25–1.5 million. A clearer summary of the overall trends and the totals would make the key features more fully addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic sequence: it first discusses cruise-ship visitors, then island visitors, and ends with a brief summary. This gives the reader some sense of organisation, but the progression is not consistently clear. The opening sentence does not establish an overview, and the total trend is introduced only vaguely with “a huge difference,” without explaining how it changed. Linking phrases such as “At the beginning,” “But,” and “In addition” are used, yet some connections are awkward or do not clearly show the relationship between the data. The final “In short” sentence repeats earlier points rather than synthesising the main trends. Grouping the overview first, followed by comparisons of the categories and totals, would improve cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “increased,” “fall,” “total number,” and “segment,” so the reader can identify the subject of the report. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. “Frequency of visitors” does not describe the number shown, while “visitors were interested in staying” suggests preference rather than recorded visitor figures. Phrases such as “at starting” and “suffered from fall” are also unnatural. Spelling errors, including “demostrate,” “fequency,” “satyed,” and “addtion,” are noticeable and reduce precision. Use standard data-reporting language and check spelling to make descriptions clearer and more appropriate to an academic graph.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts some longer sentence forms, for example, “At the beginning it was quite low … but in 2017…,” and the main message is generally recoverable. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and tense. In “0.25 million visitor were,” the plural noun and verb agreement are incorrect; “there was a second segments” also has a singular–plural mismatch. The sentence beginning “In short” has an unclear construction: “staying on island become faced a fall.” Punctuation spacing and comma use are inconsistent, as in “time .At” and “But ,in 2017.” Practise accurate simple comparisons first, then add complex clauses while checking verb forms and sentence boundaries.
