Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the chart’s subject and period, and you report the overall rise in total visitors, including the final figure of 3.5 million. You also attempt to describe both visitor groups. However, some key details are inaccurate or unclear: cruise-ship visitors reached 2 million in 2017, not 1.5 million, and the island-staying figure rose to 1.5 million by 2013, remained there through 2015, dipped in 2016, then returned to 1.5 million. The claim that the two lines had “same numbers” is not supported. The overview also says the total rose constantly, although it levelled off between 2015 and 2016. Select the main trends accurately and distinguish the total from the two categories.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic sequence: an introduction, an overview, and details about the two visitor groups. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, progression is difficult to follow because several ideas are joined with repeated or unsuitable linkers such as “While,” “Although,” “Therefore,” and “Furthermore.” For example, “While in 2015…” does not clearly connect to the preceding sentence, and the final sentence combines several years and changes without clear separation. Use one paragraph for the overview and separate, logically ordered paragraphs for the data. Connectors should show the actual relationship between ideas, while shorter sentences and clearer references would make comparisons easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “total,” “increased,” “decreased,” and “visitors staying on cruise ships,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning unclear. Phrases such as “rise up constantly,” “it was growth,” and “come in same number” are not natural ways to describe trends. There are also spelling errors, including “caribbean,” “incresed,” “Futhermore,” and “islad.” Aim for precise trend language and check spelling, especially in repeated key terms. Avoid repeating “increased” by using suitable alternatives such as “climbed,” “remained stable,” or “recovered,” where the data supports them.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts to combine ideas using clauses, but sentence structures are often faulty, and errors frequently make relationships between events hard to understand. Examples include “the total visitors was rise up,” “it constantly increased up to 2015,” and “the number of visitors of staying on cruise ships was incresed.” These show problems with verb forms, agreement, and sentence construction. Articles, plurals, and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “1 millions” and the semicolon after “Overall.” Practise forming clear past-tense sentences, for example, “The total number of visitors rose from 1 million in 2010 to 2.75 million in 2015.” Use a full stop when a sentence contains several separate changes.
