Student answer (Band 6.0)
The line graph illustrates the proportion of tourists visiting Caribbean island between 2010 and 2017.
Overall, numbers of visitors staying on cruise ships increased over the period, while visitors staying on island also rose before facing a decline. The total numbers of visitors also showed sharp growth.
In 2010, the number of visitors staying on cruise was under 0.5 millions then increased to 0.5 in 2011. Meanwhile visitors staying on island remains stable. Visitors on cruise then increased more sharply reaching to 1 million in 2014, people staying on island reached to 1.5 million. After 2015 both figures diverge, the number of island visitor decreased to1.5 and cruise visitor increased to 2 million at the end of the period.
Total number visitors began at one million then showed an uptrend and reached 2.6 in 2015. Then stayed stable for one a year , before going to the highest level accounted for 3.5 visitors in 2017. this shows that number of visitors increased by 2.5 million between the period.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main overall pattern: cruise-ship visitors rose substantially, island-staying visitors increased before easing, and total numbers climbed. You also include useful comparisons, such as the two categories reaching about 1.5 million in 2014 and cruise visitors reaching 2 million by 2017. This covers the task well, though some details are less fully or precisely reported. For example, island visitors were stable at first, rose to 1.5 million by 2013, remained there through 2015, and then fell to 1.25 million in 2016 before recovering to 1.5 million; the response compresses this into a decline “to 1.5.” The total also reached about 2.75 million in both 2015 and 2016, rather than simply staying stable for one year. More precise reporting of these stages would strengthen the overview and comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for category figures and the total. The sequence is generally easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Meanwhile,” “After 2015,” and “Then” help show changes over time. This is a coherent structure, but some connections are abrupt or unclear. In “After 2015 both figures diverge,” the reader must infer which two figures are meant, and the following description does not clearly distinguish the 2016 island dip from its 2017 recovery. The final paragraph also moves quickly from the total’s plateau to its final peak. Use clearer references and organise each paragraph around a distinct series or comparison, with transitions that accurately signal the timing of changes.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “increased,” “stable,” “decline,” “uptrend,” and “reached,” so the main trends are understandable. There are also attempts at more descriptive phrasing, such as “sharp growth” and “diverge.” However, some word choices and collocations are imprecise or unnatural: “proportion of tourists” suggests percentages, although the graph gives numbers; “sharp growth” is less natural here than “a sharp rise”; and “reaching to” is not the appropriate pattern. Repetition of “visitors” and “number” also limits flexibility. Choose terms that match the data type, vary references to the two groups, and check common collocations. These refinements would make the description more precise and natural without requiring unusually complex vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast in “while visitors staying on island also rose before facing a decline” and a time clause beginning “before going to the highest level.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “visitors staying on island remains stable” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “number of visitors staying on cruise was” needs clearer article and plural control. The sentence beginning “Then stayed stable” lacks an explicit subject, and “this shows” should begin with a capital letter after the full stop. There are also awkward sentence boundaries and spacing around figures. Review agreement, articles, complete clauses, and punctuation, then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
