Student answer (Band 5.0)
THe given diagram illustrates the number of tourists visiting a caribbean island from 2010 to 2017, To begin with the total amount of tourists they were at the top of the hill for over 4 years in a row and in the last year they were at the top with 3.5 million tourists and besides to that we have visitors which were staying on cruise ships with the lwest tourists in 2012 and it was around 0.25 million people and it wasn't that bad but still it is the lowest point of the line but after that it only increased due to the increase of the visitors. Meanwhile there were visitors who were staying on the island it was on the middle so with that case it was only avarage of 1 million tourists. In overall we can see the top is gotten by total with out deacreasing any amount for years and the middle was gotten by visitors who were staying on the island and it was increasingf slowly but still it was an improvement for them and last but not least the visitors who were staying on their cruise were in the 0.2 point until the visitors increase and after that it increased too.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the overall rise in total visitors and mention relevant details, including the cruise-ship figure reaching about 0.25 million in 2012 and the total reaching 3.5 million in 2017. However, several key trends are unclear or inaccurate. The total did not remain at its peak for over four years; it rose from 1 million in 2010 to 3.5 million in 2017, with a brief plateau at about 2.75 million in 2015–16. Island-staying visitors were not consistently “in the middle”: they rose to 1.5 million, then dipped slightly before ending at that level. Give a concise overview and compare the series using accurate start, end, and turning-point figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response includes relevant information and attempts to connect ideas with phrases such as “To begin with,” “Meanwhile,” and “last but not least.” However, the ideas are packed into one long paragraph, and the progression is difficult to follow. The opening moves from the total to cruise visitors, then to island visitors, before repeating a broad summary, without clearly separating the overview from supporting details. Some links are also unclear, as in “it wasn’t that bad but still it is the lowest point,” where the relationship between the comment and the data is hard to interpret. Organise the report into an introduction, an overview, and one or two detail paragraphs, and use comparisons to guide the reader through the figures.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “total,” “visitors,” “increased,” and “lowest point,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or conversational for an academic report, such as “top of the hill,” “it wasn’t that bad,” and “the middle.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “lwest,” “avarage,” “deacreasing,” and “increasingf,” which reduce clarity and control. Choose precise trend language and avoid vague descriptions: for example, say that the total “rose steadily” or “levelled off,” and describe the island figure as remaining broadly stable. Proofreading spelling would also make the information easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts longer sentences and uses some linking clauses, but these are often difficult to control. For example, “To begin with the total amount of tourists they were at the top of the hill for over 4 years in a row” has an unclear subject and faulty sentence structure. In “Meanwhile there were visitors who were staying on the island it was on the middle,” two clauses are joined without appropriate punctuation or a clear grammatical link. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, including “THe” and the comma after “2017.” Use shorter, complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check clause boundaries. A reliable pattern such as “The total rose from … to …, while the number staying on the island …” would help you express comparisons more accurately.
