Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall rise and compare the two visitor groups, which addresses the central features of the graph. The figures for island visitors—rising to about 1.5 million, then dipping in 2016—and the total reaching 3.5 million in 2017 are broadly accurate. However, the overview says cruise-ship visitors had the “lowest ratio,” which is not true throughout: island visitors were higher in every year. There is also a significant omission in the cruise-ship trend: it reaches 2 million in 2017, not 1.5 million, and the total is described as jumping “magically,” an unsuitable and unclear description of the rise. Report the key endpoint accurately and make the overview more precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable progression from an introduction to an overview and then details about the total and the two visitor categories. This makes the main information reasonably easy to follow. However, the paragraphing is not clearly developed, and the overview and detail are compressed into a single block. Some linking is mechanical, particularly “after that” and “From 2012 to 2017,” while the sequence of figures in the cruise-ship description could be clearer. Grouping the total trend in one paragraph and comparing the two categories in another would improve the organisation. Use transitions to show contrast or change, rather than relying mainly on time markers.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary such as “increased steadily,” “slight decrease,” “proportion,” and “reached,” so the reader can understand the main trends. However, several choices are inaccurate or informal for an academic report. “Magically jumped” is inappropriate, “ratio” is not the right term for the number of visitors, and “amount of visitors” is an awkward collocation. Spelling errors such as “noticable,” “killion,” and “apprximately” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise terms such as “number,” “figure,” and “rose sharply,” and check spelling carefully. This would make your descriptions more natural and exact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more developed sentence forms, including a relative clause in “Tourists who stayed on cruise ship…” and a comparison describing the 2016 decline. The main trends remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “the amount of visitors who visited” has an unsuitable noun construction and redundant wording, while “caribbean island” needs an article and capitalisation. In “The ratio if visitors,” the sentence structure is faulty, and “reached at 1.5 million” uses an incorrect preposition. Punctuation spacing is also inconsistent, especially after “Overall” and around full stops. Review articles, sentence boundaries, and preposition patterns to improve control.
