Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main overall rise in total visitors and report several relevant figures, including the total reaching 3.5 million in 2017 and cruise-ship visitors reaching 2 million. However, the overview is broad and does not clearly highlight the key contrast: island-based visitors rose early and then remained fairly stable, while cruise-ship numbers grew strongly and overtook island visitors by 2017. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: the total was 2 million in 2013, not 2.5 million in 2014 as the sequence suggests, and the island figure dipped in 2016 before returning to 1.5 million. Select the most important comparisons and report them precisely to make the summary more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response follows a generally understandable order, moving from an introduction and overview to figures from the beginning, middle and end of the period. This gives the reader a basic sense of progression. However, the information is presented in one continuous block, and repeated transitions such as “Then,” “While,” and “Furthermore” make the links feel mechanical. Several sentences also combine multiple trends, so it is not always clear which series is being described; for example, the sequence beginning “Then, ratio of total visitors…” shifts quickly to island and cruise-ship figures. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and detailed comparisons, and group the two visitor categories more clearly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “total visitors,” “increased,” “gradually,” and “dip,” so the main trends can generally be understood. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated, especially “ratio of visitors,” which is not the natural term for these figures. There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice problems, such as “Carbbean,” “millon,” “raeched,” and “inreased.” Phrases like “came to island” and “stayed on the cruise ship” are awkward for describing visitor totals. Build a more precise set of trend expressions and use “number” or “figure” rather than “ratio” when reporting counts.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences and use past-tense reporting, but the grammatical range is limited and errors occur frequently enough to make parts of the account less smooth. Examples include “the total number of visitors came to island has increased,” where the tense and sentence structure do not fit together, and “Then, ratio of total visitors increased from 2011 and reached…,” which lacks clear grammatical framing. Articles and prepositions are often missing, as in “came to island,” while punctuation spacing and sentence boundaries are inconsistent (“continuously.And”). Practise forming accurate past-tense comparisons, including structures such as “the number rose from… to…” and “whereas…,” before adding more complex clauses.
