Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the general subject and mention an overall rise in tourist numbers, including the total reaching 3.5 million in 2017. However, the account responds only minimally to the graph because key trends are confused or inaccurately described. For example, cruise-ship visitors did not become more numerous than island-staying visitors until 2016, rather than being higher from 2010 to 2015. The island-staying figure was not generally low: it rose from about 0.75 million to around 1.5 million and then remained fairly stable. The final sentence is incomplete, and there is no clear, accurate overview comparing the two categories and the total. Select the main trends and report them with reliable comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is an attempt to separate ideas into paragraphs and to use linking expressions such as “on the other hand” and “after that.” These give the response some visible organisation. However, the information is not arranged in a clear progression: the opening is difficult to interpret, and the discussion shifts between totals, cruise visitors and island visitors without establishing a consistent comparison. Several links are also unclear or contradictory, such as saying cruise visitors were higher from 2010 to 2015. The final thought, “the people show the int,” is unfinished, which leaves the response without a complete ending. Organise the report around an overview followed by clear descriptions of the total and each visitor category.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response attempts task-related vocabulary, including “visitors,” “cruise ship,” “percentage,” and “increased,” so the topic is recognisable. However, the range is basic and repetitive, and frequent spelling and word-choice problems make several statements difficult to understand. Examples include “vistors,” “num bars,” “peoples,” “rexlad,” and “mantaind.” Some expressions are also unsuitable for describing a graph: “relaxing in cruise ship” and “staying percentage of hotal” do not clearly name the visitor categories. Use accurate terms such as “number of visitors,” “cruise-ship passengers,” and “visitors staying on the island,” and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt longer sentences and use time clauses, for example, “within 2 years the amount of peoples is increased,” but grammatical control is weak and errors frequently obscure the intended meaning. Verb forms and agreement are often incorrect, as in “the numbers … is became higher” and “the amount of peoples are decreased.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also unreliable: the opening sentence is incomplete, while several later sentences join multiple ideas with commas or “and.” The final sentence is unfinished. Practise forming clear subject–verb–object sentences, using past simple for the historical data, and separating comparisons into complete sentences. More accurate basic structures will make your trends easier to follow.
