Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the chart’s subject and report several relevant figures, including the overall rise from 1 million in 2010 to 3.5 million in 2017, as well as the growth in cruise-ship visitors. However, the overview, “total tourist all always in peak point,” does not clearly summarise the main trends. Some figures are inaccurate: the totals for 2015 and 2016 are about 2.75 million, not 2.3 million, and the island-staying figure in 2017 is about 1.5 million. The response also gives a year-by-year list rather than selecting and comparing the most important features. State the contrasting pattern clearly: cruise visitors rose markedly, while island visitors were comparatively stable after 2013.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response follows the years in chronological order, which gives the reader a basic route through the data, and it attempts to separate an overview from the details. However, the overview is too unclear to guide the report, and nearly all the figures are packed into one long paragraph and sentence. Repeated use of “and” makes relationships between the series difficult to follow, while the transition from 2013 to the combined 2014–2017 figures is abrupt. Organise the report into a clear overview and two detail paragraphs, grouping the cruise-ship trend separately from the island-staying trend and totals. Use linking phrases to show comparisons, not just sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, such as “increased,” “declined,” “reached,” and “visitors staying on cruise ships,” so the subject is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or awkward, including “total tourist all always in peak point” and “increased and reached in.” Spelling errors such as “cruse,” “millon,” and “occilated” also reduce clarity. Aim for precise, natural language for describing trends and comparisons, and check spelling carefully. For example, “remained stable” would describe the island figures more accurately than repeatedly saying they “has” a value.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts some longer sentences to report several years and series, but these are often difficult to control. Errors in agreement and verb forms occur throughout, as in “The graph below illustrate” and “visitors staying on inland has increased.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also weak: the long final sentence joins many clauses without clear structure, and spacing after commas is inconsistent. Most reporting relies on the same simple pattern, “has increased and reached,” rather than showing a controlled range of sentence forms. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build shorter sentences around one comparison at a time, for example: “Cruise-ship visitors rose to 2 million by 2017, while island visitors remained near 1.5 million.”
