Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the overall rise in total visitors and the particularly strong growth in cruise-ship visitors, and you include relevant start and end figures: about 1 million total visitors in 2010 and 3.5 million in 2017, with cruise visitors rising to 2 million. The island-stay figures are also broadly accurate, including the final value of 1.5 million. However, the overview is unclear about the main pattern: island visitors rose from about 0.75 million to 1.5 million, but fluctuated and dipped in 2016 rather than simply “increased equally.” The claim that the two groups “started growing together” is also imprecise. To make the report more complete, describe the island series’ plateau and dip, and compare when cruise visitors overtook island visitors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview, a paragraph of figures and a concluding statement. This gives the reader a coherent overall arrangement. However, progression is weakened by repetition: the conclusion restates the overview and the total’s rise rather than adding a useful comparison. Some linking is mechanical or unclear, particularly “Overall. Graph shows…” and the repeated use of “whereas” without a clear contrast. The paragraph containing the figures also moves between the two visitor categories and the total without a consistent order. Organise the body by series or by key stages, and use clear links such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile” only where the data genuinely contrasts.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “visitors,” “cruise ships,” “growth,” and “reaching,” so the subject is generally understandable. However, the range and control are limited, with repeated use of “growth” and “visitors” and several inaccurate or unnatural expressions. For example, “lack down on the end growth” and “shot down the growth” do not clearly describe a decline or fluctuation; “decent growth” is also imprecise for an academic report. There are noticeable spelling errors, including “illustates,” “vistors,” and “Carribbean.” Use precise trend language and check spelling: for example, “fluctuated,” “remained stable,” and “rose steadily” would describe the chart more accurately and naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the reader can usually identify the intended comparisons and figures. However, some errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles and punctuation make parts difficult to follow. For example, “Overall. Graph shows visitors growth on total increased in all whereas…” is not a complete, well-formed sentence, while “the individual who stayed on cruise ships was growing” uses an unsuitable singular subject for a group of visitors. In “between 2010 to 2017,” the time expression is not formed correctly; use “between 2010 and 2017.” Improve control by writing shorter, complete sentences first, then combining related ideas with accurate clauses. Check sentence boundaries and subject–verb agreement during revision.
