Student answer (Band 6.0)

The line graph below illustrate that how many tourist visited Caribbean island from 2010 to 2017.

Overall, total number of number of tourist recorded the highest visit of Caribbean island throughout the period and visitors preference to stay on cruise ships rose, whereas who were staying on island fluctuated and remained below the visitors who stayed on cruise ship.

Looking closely to the details, the total number of visitor to Caribbean island increased significantly from 1 million to 2.6 million, between 2010 and 2015 and it remained the same till 2016 and rose substantially to 3.5 million by 2017, visitor who stayed on cruise ships fluctuated between 2010 to 2012 than increased approximately 0.5 million to 2 million from 2012 to 2017 it remained the second largest category in Caribbean island visitor.

On the other hand, from 2010 to 2011 the number of visitor who choose to stay on island showed no change. In contrast the number of visits rose from 0.6 million to 1.5 million, 2012 to 2013, and stayed constant for 3 years after that it dipped slightly and recover its position to 1.5 million in 2017.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You cover the main series and give a clear overview of the overall rise, the growth in cruise-ship visitors, and the comparatively stable pattern for visitors staying on the island. Most reported trends are grounded in the graph, including the total reaching 3.5 million in 2017 and island stays ending at about 1.5 million. However, some figures and comparisons need greater precision: the total in 2015 is about 2.75 million, not 2.6 million, and cruise-ship visitors rise from about 0.25 million in 2012 to 2 million in 2017, rather than increasing by 0.5 million. The overview also incorrectly says island visitors remained below cruise-ship visitors; they were higher until the two categories became equal in 2017. Accurate comparisons would make the summary more fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate discussion of the total and the two visitor categories. This gives the reader a generally logical route through the information, and phrases such as “Overall” and “On the other hand” help signal shifts. To make the progression clearer and more controlled, separate the long middle sentence into shorter units and group related comparisons together. For example, the sentence beginning “the total number of visitor” moves from the total to cruise-ship figures without a clear boundary. Some linking is also imprecise: “On the other hand” suggests a stronger contrast than the island-stay trend requires. Clearer sentence boundaries and more exact referencing would strengthen cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “fluctuated,” “remained constant,” “increased significantly,” and “dipped slightly,” which helps describe changes rather than simply list figures. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “rose substantially.” However, several word choices and collocations are awkward or repetitive: “recorded the highest visit” and “preference to stay” do not describe the graph naturally, while “number of tourist” is repeated. Use precise terms such as “visitor numbers,” “the total,” and “visitors staying on cruise ships.” The phrase “recover its position” is also unclear for a figure returning to 1.5 million. These issues do not prevent understanding, but more natural and accurate collocations would improve the report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “whereas” and “although”-like contrasts, but control is inconsistent. Errors occur in basic agreement and sentence construction: “The line graph … illustrate” needs a singular verb, and “how many tourist visited” has incorrect question structure and number. The overview’s “total number of number of tourist” also shows problems with articles and plural forms. Several sentences run together, especially the long sentence beginning “the total number of visitor,” making relationships between clauses difficult to follow. Tense and verb-form errors appear in “who choose” and “it dipped slightly and recover.” Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, past-tense forms, and punctuation, then divide complex ideas into complete sentences.
