Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the overall rise in visitor numbers and mention both cruise-ship and island stays, so the response is relevant to the chart. However, the overview is not sufficiently accurate: cruise ships were not the most popular accommodation throughout, since island stays were higher in most years up to 2015. The account also gives only a few figures and omits important comparisons, including the total’s rise from about 1 million to 3.5 million and the island-stay figures’ relative stability after 2013. The 2012 cruise figure is described as a drop, but the year is mistyped as “201” for the preceding value. The response is also 29 words below the required minimum, leaving the report notably incomplete. Add a clear overview and cover the main trends with accurate comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the report: an opening, an overview, and a paragraph beginning “To begin with.” This gives the reader some sense of sequence. However, progression is limited because the response ends abruptly with “In addition to that” and does not complete the point about island visitors. The final paragraph also introduces a comparison without supporting it with figures or a clear explanation. Linking words such as “But,” “however,” and “Moreover” are used, but some connections are awkward or repetitive rather than guiding the reader through a complete account. Use separate, purposeful paragraphs for the overview and the two accommodation trends, and finish each comparison before moving on.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt some task-appropriate vocabulary, including “footfall,” “marked significant growth,” “notable feature,” and “approximately,” which shows a willingness to use more than basic wording. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural and make the report less precise: “tourist attraction to visit” does not describe the number of visitors, and “cruise ship is the most prefered location” is an unsuitable way to describe accommodation. “People are more leaning towards cruise stay” is also an awkward collocation. Spelling errors such as “prefered” and “significat” further reduce control. Aim for precise chart language and natural collocations, for example “the number of tourists,” “visitors staying on cruise ships,” and “rose steadily.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response includes some attempts at longer structures, such as “Another notable feature is that…” and “In addition to that…,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in verb forms and sentence construction appear in “0.25 millions of people have opted,” “which increased to half a million,” and “the footfall drop.” The sentence beginning “But, in 2012…” is difficult to follow because the contrast and time sequence are not clearly formed. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, including the lowercase opening “overall” and the comma after “evident that.” These problems sometimes make relationships between events unclear. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build complete sentences around each year and figure; for example, “The cruise-ship figure fell in 2012, then rose from 2013 onwards.”
