Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The graph illustrates the number of tourists visiting a particular Caribbean island between 2010 and 2017 which also mentions the number of visitors staying on cruise ships as well as on island.
Overall, a certain rose in the number of visitors can be noticed over the period. Visitors are divided into two categories, one are those who stay on cruise ships and others are those who stay on the island. In both categories the number of visitiors surged over the time period.
To begin with the number of visitors staying on cruise ships, in 2010 it stood slightly less than half a million visitors but a raise got noticed next year reaching almost at half a million while in 2012 it dropped again to less than half a million. After that a constant raise occured by which the number of visitors reached approximately at 2 million visitors by 2017.
Moreover, the visitors staying on island stood at more than half a million in the beginning in 2010. A surge recorded by pushing the number to almost 1.5 million ny 2013 but it went contsant till 2015. A dip in the number of visitors got noticed in 2016 but it recovered to 1.5 million again in 2017. Calculating the total number of visitors which started from 1 million visitors in 2010 and kept on rising reaching upto 3.5 million visitors by the end of 2017.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You cover the main components of the graph and give a clear overall picture: total visitor numbers rose, cruise-ship visitors increased substantially, and island-staying visitors fluctuated less. Several figures and trends are reported accurately, including the cruise-ship total of about 2 million in 2017 and the island figure returning to 1.5 million. However, the overview says both categories “surged,” which overstates the comparatively modest overall change in island visitors. Some details are also imprecise: the island figure was already 1.25 million in 2012, and the cruise-ship series did not rise constantly after 2012 because it dipped in 2012 before increasing. To strengthen the response, compare the categories more explicitly and describe the total’s rise, including its plateau in 2015–16.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the two visitor categories, followed by the total. This makes the information generally easy to follow, and sequencing phrases such as “To begin with” and “Moreover” help signal movement between topics. However, the final sentence about total visitors feels appended rather than integrated into the comparison, and some linking is mechanical. The overview repeats the category distinction without adding much detail, while “After that” covers several years without clearly identifying the stages. Grouping the figures into clearer periods and linking the total to the category trends would create smoother progression and more precise cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of trend vocabulary, including “surged,” “dropped,” “dip,” “recovered,” and “reaching,” so the main movements are understandable. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing a graph: “a certain rose” and “a raise got noticed” are not idiomatic, while “stood” and “kept on rising” are repeated or informal. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “visitiors,” “occurred,” and “contsant,” which reduce the overall control of vocabulary. Aim for precise, conventional collocations such as “the figure increased” or “the total reached,” and check spelling carefully. This would make the description clearer and more appropriately academic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “which” and “while,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, some sentence structures are faulty or awkward. For example, “Visitors are divided into two categories, one are those…” has an agreement and construction problem, and “A surge recorded by pushing the number…” lacks a clear grammatical subject and verb. The sentence beginning “Calculating the total number…” is also an incomplete construction. Articles and prepositions are sometimes inaccurate, as in “reaching almost at half a million.” Work on forming complete clauses with clear subjects and verbs, and check agreement and sentence boundaries. More accurate control of these structures would improve readability.
