Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the overall rise in total visitors, from about 1 million in 2010 to 3.5 million in 2017, and describe the broad patterns for both visitor groups. These are relevant features and show that you understand the graph. However, the overview is unclear when it says both groups were approximately one million in 2010; the island figure was about 0.75 million and cruise-ship visitors about 0.25 million. Some details are also inaccurate or confusing: island visitors rose to about 1.25 million in 2012, not doubled, and the total reached 3.5 million in 2017, not merely “became” that figure without a clear comparison. Select the main changes and report them precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure, with an introduction, an overview and a body paragraph, and it uses signposts such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore” and “Moreover.” This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, the body combines several trends in long, loosely connected sentences, so the progression is difficult to follow. Phrases such as “it got fall by 0.2 millions in again in 2017 increased” obscure the sequence of changes, and the final sentence repeats the total figures already mentioned in the overview. Separate the island, cruise-ship and total trends more clearly, and use linking words only where they accurately show the relationship between ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “remained stable,” “total number” and “approximately,” and you attempt to describe change rather than simply list figures. However, inaccurate word forms, spelling and collocations are frequent enough to make parts of the report difficult to understand. Examples include “visting,” “apporimately,” “proliferation” and “dramatical prolifiration”; “proliferation” is also an unsuitable choice for describing visitor numbers. Repetition of “became” and “increased” limits the range. Build a reliable set of trend expressions—such as “rose to,” “fell slightly,” “levelled off” and “reached a peak”—and check spelling and whether each expression fits the data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to use both simple and more extended sentence forms, including clauses linked with “while,” “but” and “after this.” However, control of sentence structure and verb forms is inconsistent, and several errors make the timeline hard to interpret. For example, “The line graph show” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “it was remained stable” uses an incorrect verb construction. In “people who are visiting to the island was,” the tense and agreement do not match the past-time data. Punctuation and spacing around commas are also inconsistent. Practise writing short, accurate past-tense comparisons first, then combine them using subordinate clauses while checking agreement and verb forms.
