Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the chart’s subject and report several relevant figures, including the rise in cruise-ship visitors from about 0.3 million to 2 million and the total’s increase from 1 million to 3.5 million. You also describe the island-staying figure as broadly stable after reaching 1.5 million, which captures part of its pattern. However, the overview is too vague: “many increase and decrese” does not clearly summarise the overall growth in total visitors or the contrasting trends in the two categories. There is also a significant factual error: island visitors finish at about 1.5 million, not 2 million. Develop a concise overview and compare the categories more accurately, including the cruise-ship total overtaking island visitors by the final year.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic sequence: an introduction, an overview, and descriptions of the two visitor categories, followed by the total. This gives the reader some organisation, and time markers such as “in 2011” and “in 2017” help locate changes. However, progression within the body is difficult to follow because several long sentences join many figures and changes together. For example, the cruise-ship account moves from 2010 through 2017 in one sentence, with repeated “after that” and unclear references such as “it.” The island and total information are also crowded into one paragraph. Use separate, clearly focused paragraphs and shorter sentences, grouping related trends and using linking phrases selectively.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “visitors,” “quantity,” “constant,” and “decline,” and the reader can generally identify the categories being described. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “quantity of tourist,” “many increase,” and “start down fall.” Repeated use of “increase” and “visitors” also makes the account less precise. Spelling errors—including “decrese,” “diffrent,” “begining,” and “contineously”—are noticeable and sometimes slow the reader. Build a more accurate set of trend expressions, such as “the number of visitors,” “rose steadily,” “remained stable,” and “fell slightly,” and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts to describe changes over time and includes some clauses linked with “after” and “until,” but sentence structures are mostly repetitive, and attempts to combine several events often become difficult to control. Errors occur frequently in verb forms and sentence construction: “The line graph illustrate” lacks subject–verb agreement, while “it was remain constant” and “it was stayed constant” use incorrect verb patterns. Articles and prepositions are also often missing or misplaced, as in “in the period 2016.” Punctuation is inconsistent, with run-on sentences and missing spaces after full stops. Practise accurate past-tense forms and build shorter sentences first, then add subordinate clauses while maintaining clear punctuation.
