Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the overall rise in total visitors and describe the two accommodation groups, with relevant figures such as the total reaching about 3.5 million in 2017 and cruise-ship visitors reaching 2 million. The overview also attempts a comparison between the groups. However, some key details are inaccurate: the total rises to about 2.75 million in 2015, not 3 million, and island-staying visitors finish at about 1.5 million rather than 1.3 million. The claim that island visitors were generally lower than the others is unclear, since this group exceeded cruise-ship visitors for most of the period. More precise comparisons and a clearer overview of the contrasting trends would strengthen the report.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction and overview are followed by details about total visitors and the two visitor groups. This gives the information a coherent overall arrangement, and phrases such as “By contrast” and “On the other hand” signal comparisons. However, the progression is not always smooth: the second paragraph moves between the total and each category without clearly grouping the figures or highlighting their relationship. Some linking phrases feel mechanical, and the overview’s comparison is difficult to follow. Organise the details into clearer stages—for example, total growth first, then the contrasting trends in the two groups—and use references such as “this figure” only when their meaning is unmistakable.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “substantial growth,” “remained stable,” “increased gradually,” and “peak.” These choices help describe trends, and the meaning is generally clear. There are, however, several inaccurate or awkward expressions, such as “individuals who visited … by staying on cruise ships and on island,” “starting from half million,” and “following some fluctuations.” Spelling slips such as “vistors” and “visting” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural collocations and consistent terminology: for example, refer to “tourists staying on the island” and say that cruise-ship numbers “rose despite some fluctuations.” This would make the description more precise and fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrastive construction beginning “By contrast” and a time clause describing how the island figure changed. The main trends remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. The opening has subject–verb disagreement (“The line chart illustrate”), and several sentences omit articles or use awkward sentence boundaries, as in “starting from 1 million increased consistently.” Commas are also missing after introductory time phrases, while the double full stop after “2017” is incorrect. Check agreement, articles, and punctuation, and make sure each sentence has a clear subject and verb. Greater control of these basics, alongside your attempts at complex structures, would improve accuracy.
