IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 5.5)

In comming times people will prefer not to but buy newspapper and printed books becuase will be largerly available online for free. Yes i totally agree with this statement because technology is developing at rapid pace platforms like instagram and facebook hase over took the printed newspaper. Similarly, printed reading books will aslo go out of demand because peoples will get both of these online free of cost.

Firstly, Talking about newspaper. Now a days the demand of printed news papers is almost at the lowest and in near future i will disapper completly. Social media platfroms such as facebook, instagram and youtube took a lead in delivering news For example the new on social media platform like youtube and facebook will be broadcasted every minute and people want to stay updated every minute.

Another plus point of these platforms is you are not resticted to new about specific region. These platforms offer to boradcats new from all over the world thats also the plus point. Looking at these positive impacts the demand for printed new paper will be no longer in demand.

The demand for printed books is also showing decline in may parts of the world and more people are attracted toward e books. e books offer alot of benefits such as portabilty for instance people nowadays download free books in their phones and laptops which give freedom to read it any where they want. Furthermore, people nowadays are more concerned about saving environment. The raw material used for making paper is mostly wood and governments and evironmentalist are encouraging peoples to read e books and there is a great possibility that in future no body will be buying printed books.

In concluison, by looking at all these developments i can say this confidently that in future people will not pay for printed books and news papers.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the opening: you agree that online access will reduce demand for printed newspapers and books, and the conclusion restates this view. You address both types of publication and give relevant reasons, including the speed and global reach of social media, the portability of e-books, and environmental concerns. This covers the task well and shows some development beyond simply stating an opinion. However, the newspaper discussion is more fully explained than the book discussion, and claims such as printed newspapers disappearing completely or people reading online for free are asserted rather than carefully supported. To strengthen the response, explain why free online access will remain available and acknowledge a counterpoint, such as readers who value print or paid digital content.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs on newspapers and books, and a conclusion. The sequence of ideas within each section is generally understandable, and examples follow the points they illustrate. You also use linking expressions such as “Firstly,” “Similarly,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion.” At times, however, these links feel mechanical, and some connections between sentences are unclear. For example, “Looking at these positive impacts” does not specify which impacts are being summarised, while “Another plus point” repeats the same general pattern. Improve progression by making each paragraph’s main point explicit, linking examples directly to claims, and using pronouns or transitions only when their reference is clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “social media platforms,” “broadcasted,” “portability,” “raw material,” and “environmentalist,” so the reader can follow the main ideas. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors are noticeable. Phrases such as “the demand … will be no longer in demand” repeat the same idea awkwardly, and “not resticted to new about specific region” makes the intended meaning harder to understand. Frequent misspellings, including “comming,” “newspapper,” and “portabilty,” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise vocabulary for trends and access, and proofread spelling. Prefer natural combinations such as “demand for print newspapers is declining” and “access news from around the world.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a reason clause with “because” and a supporting example introduced by “for instance.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make sentences difficult to follow. For example, “because will be largerly available online” lacks a clear subject, while “printed reading books will aslo go out of demand because peoples will get both of these online” has problems with sentence construction and agreement. There are also issues with articles, plurals, and punctuation, as in “in near future” and the run-on opening to the newspaper paragraph. Practise building complete clauses with clear subjects and verbs, then check agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries.
