IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years the advancement of technology improves the lives of many people. It makes individual's life easier and more convenient. While some people believe that no one will purchase printed copy of newspaper or books due to its price, others think that it is more comfortable to read articles, current news and stories on printed copies. In my opinion, both arguments are valid, however, I agree with the latter statement.
One of the major reasons why printed materials, such as newspapers, storybooks, magazines, encyclopedias are still useful is because some people preferred to read the information on a hard copy. For instance, old people aged 50 and above prefer to acquire details from the printed copies due to they have difficulties navigating computers or other gadgets to read. Moreover, the downside of online activities is that it needs a stable wifi. Consequently, there is a possiblity that old people have limited knowledge with wifi connection and navigating gadgets.
Although reading online will benefit some people for the reason that they can access free materials, some people have limited screen time. For example, individuals who use gadgets for long hours are prone to radiation. As a result, they might get related health issues such as, having blurry vision, headache, and getting poor eyesight in the long run.
In conclusion, although reading online is beneficial for some people because most of them are free and it is more convenient, I don't agree that in the future nobody will purchase common printed materials due to some people preferred to read in a traditional way.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you disagree that printed materials will disappear, and you give relevant reasons involving older readers’ familiarity with paper and concerns about screen use. The response also acknowledges the opposing view that online materials can be free and convenient. However, some points are less fully developed than others. The discussion of older people relies on a broad age-based generalisation, and the claim that screen use causes health problems would be stronger with a clearer explanation of why this will sustain demand for printed books and newspapers. The conclusion restates your view, but the argument would be more convincing if you directly addressed the prediction that online reading will be free and available to everyone.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting considerations, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “For instance,” “Moreover,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the progression, and the main position is easy to identify. This shows coherent organisation, with some effective progression between ideas. At times, however, connections within paragraphs are mechanical or unclear. “Consequently” does not clearly follow from the point about Wi-Fi, and the second body paragraph moves from free access to screen-time limits without fully explaining the relationship. Develop each paragraph around one central reason and use more precise links to show cause, contrast, or consequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “printed materials,” “access free materials,” “stable wifi,” and “health issues.” These choices make the main ideas understandable, and you attempt some topic-specific phrasing. However, several word choices and collocations are imprecise or repetitive, such as “acquire details,” “limited knowledge with wifi connection,” and “common printed materials.” There are also spelling and form slips, including “possiblity” and “individual's life,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural combinations and precise terms—for example, describe people as having difficulty “navigating digital devices” rather than “navigating gadgets,” and refer to “printed publications” rather than “common printed materials.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including concession clauses such as “Although reading online will benefit some people…” and a relative clause in “individuals who use gadgets for long hours.” Most sentences communicate their intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “the advancement of technology improves” would be more consistent as “has improved,” while “some people preferred” and “some people have limited screen time” need more appropriate tense or phrasing in context. There are also errors in sentence construction and agreement, as in “due to they have difficulties” and “most of them are free,” where the reference is unclear. Review verb forms, clause structure, and pronoun reference to make your complex sentences more controlled.
