IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 5.0)

does technology affect all fields!

After many years individuals will stop buying newspapers and books by replacing them with electronic ones and for free access. This essay agree with this idea because technology developed the educational field, it facilates people lives and offer new job opportunities.

Firsly, the impact of modern technology has increased these recent years and affected books, to develop their quality by using developed technology that helped to the deep understanding of article by providing synonyms and notes. In addition it facilates people lives by helping them to gain more time and cutting costs, for exemple, in the past learners had to pay extra money to study or read and that affected the poor poeple and stoped them to maintain their studies.

Furthermore, online apps or websites offer new jobs especially for engineers and providing them to show their creativity to help others who are interessted in this field especially kids, one instance: in France the government provide money for engineers who create free apps for lecture, this reduces the joblessness rates and developed the educational system.

Despite all these benefites, I see that printed newspaper and books still has an importatnt role in the society, because the way of thinking of people change, and persons who prefer printed books exicte, one illustration of this, in Algeria old people do not know how to use phones but they love reading newspapers. So this modernisation will stop them to learn.

Printed books are a need that even the developed technology can not ended them.

To sum up, The future generation will be able to read whatever they want without paying. I largely agree because technology facilates our lives and develop our educational system

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You give a clear general view that online reading will become more common, and you include a counterpoint about older people who prefer printed newspapers. However, the position is not fully consistent: the introduction says you agree, the body argues that print remains important, and the conclusion returns to strong agreement without explaining how these views fit together. Several supporting points, such as technology creating jobs and improving education, are only loosely connected to whether printed books and newspapers will disappear or whether online material will be free. Develop the central argument by addressing both the future of print and free online access, and explain the significance of each example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, supporting paragraphs, a counterargument and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “Despite all these benefits,” and “To sum up” help signal the stages of the discussion. However, progression is uneven: the paragraph about engineers and job opportunities shifts away from the main question, while the final sentence about printed books being a need is not clearly connected to the preceding point. Some transitions feel formulaic, and the relationship between your support for online reading and your defence of print is not resolved. Keep each paragraph focused on one aspect of the question and use clear references to connect examples to your main position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “electronic,” “educational system,” “joblessness rates,” and “modernisation,” and the reader can generally understand your intended meaning. However, the range is limited and several spelling, word-form, and collocation errors make expression less clear, for example “facilates,” “exicte,” “for lecture,” and “deep understanding of article.” Repeated use of broad terms such as “technology,” “people,” and “books” also limits precision. Aim to learn accurate topic phrases and check spelling carefully; more natural wording would help you explain the contrast between digital and printed publications with greater clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because” and “who,” and you use paragraph-level sentence variety. However, complex structures are often faulty, and frequent errors can make the reader pause. For example, “This essay agree” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, while “printed newspaper and books still has” has agreement and number problems. The sentence beginning “one instance” is also difficult to control, and several clauses are joined without clear grammatical relationships. Practise accurate agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries, then build longer sentences from simpler, correct patterns. Careful proofreading would also help with capitalization and punctuation.
