IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 5.0)

In the upcoming years, noone will purchase newspapers or books due to the facility of internet without wasting money on books and papers. Redarding my opinion, I competely agree with this statement because it helps to watch visually and decrease of reading habits.

To begin with, there are several reasons why purchasing newspapers and books will decrease. Firstly, internet gives facility of watching visually. To explain, when people want to know about any situation and summary of any books, they can just watch and get news and summary in audio version where they donot have to look line by line in phones. Secondly, the habit of reading will be less. Elaborating further, if people watch all the things in smartohnes with the internet services, they will feel bored while reading the books page by page and to execute different time for it.

Although, people like to spend their alone time and free time reading different types of books and reading is the hobby of many people and they can continue reading in the future even though various services will be also their in the upcoming years but, it can be loop anyways due to the attraction of individuals in i social media apps. As we can see, elder people used to be angry on us while using phones however, they are also addicted to it nowadays.

In conclusion, our prediction can be wrong in the future that reading will decrease. In my point of view, I believe somehow use of internet and digital technology will rise in the upcoming years and there will be no person who will spend reading newspaper and books rather than enjoying swiping social media apps such as instagram and tiktoks.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You state a clear position in the introduction—“I completely agree”—and give reasons related to online access, audio or visual content, and changing reading habits. However, the response only partially addresses the specific prediction that people will stop buying printed newspapers and books because they can read everything online for free. The discussion shifts to watching summaries and social-media use, without explaining whether online material is free or why printed formats would disappear entirely. The paragraph beginning “Although” also introduces the counterpoint that some people enjoy reading, but does not resolve it clearly against your position. Develop each reason with a direct link to printed purchases and acknowledge the limits of your prediction to make the argument more complete and convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an introduction, separate body paragraphs, and a conclusion, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” help identify the stages of your argument. However, progression is not consistently clear: the first body paragraph moves from watching visually to audio summaries, while the next shifts to reading habits without a clear explanation of how these points establish that printed books and newspapers will no longer be bought. The counterargument beginning “Although” is difficult to follow and ends with a social-media example that does not clearly connect to the point about people enjoying reading. Some linking phrases are repetitive or awkwardly used. Organise each paragraph around one clear claim, explain its connection to the question, and use transitions that show the relationship between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “newspapers,” “audio version,” “reading habits,” “digital technology,” and “social media apps,” so the reader can generally identify the subject of your argument. However, the range is limited and several noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors make parts difficult to interpret. Examples include “facility of internet,” “watching visually,” “it can be loop anyways,” and “their in the upcoming years.” There are also misspellings such as “Redarding,” “competely,” and “smartohnes.” Aim for more precise expressions and check spelling carefully. For instance, describe people as accessing online content or listening to audio summaries, rather than using unclear phrases such as “watching visually.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a conditional-style explanation beginning “when people want to know” and a concession introduced by “Although.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and frequent errors can make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “it helps to watch visually and decrease of reading habits” lacks a parallel grammatical structure, while “they will feel bored while reading the books page by page and to execute different time for it” has an unclear construction. The long sentence beginning “Although” also contains several clauses that are not joined or punctuated effectively. Practise building accurate sentences with one main clause and clearly attached supporting clauses, and check articles, verb forms, agreement, and punctuation.
