IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In the future, no one will buy physical books or newspapers, they will prefer to read on online because it will be free. I agree with this statement in some extent because individuals can easily read from website but they also suffer from many physical problems.
Some people like to read printed books because it create a image in front of our eyes, so that they can memorize and think effortlessly and it remember for many more days. Moreover, they may avoid physical issues which are occured due to browsing internet for a long time. For example, people may suffer from eye starin, backache, headache. So, they prefer printed books or newspaper. Additionally, physical books can be offered as a valuable gift and many people collect and save these as memeorable things.
In contrast, we live in Artificial Intelligence era, so most of the individual like to read in online, because they can carry millions of books, newspaper within a small device at a same time. There are many breakthrough software tools ; individuals can find out a very old book by learning these tools and save it at the same time. Moreover, spending quality time in anywhere is possible by reading comics or fictions through website without carrying heavy backpack. In the future, technology will be more upgraded, more feature may be uploaded, thats why many people will prefer online books instead of printed books.
In conclusion, I believe one third people will like physical books, though we will reach a peak of technology. While, almost all the people prefer online books because of its usage is much more easy than another option.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address the topic and give a qualified position: you agree “in some extent” that online reading will become more popular, while noting reasons people may retain printed books. The two body paragraphs offer relevant support, including eye strain and the convenience of carrying many books on one device. However, the position is not fully consistent: the introduction says you partly agree, whereas the conclusion predicts that “almost all” people will prefer online books. The claim that online reading will be free is also accepted without discussion, and the estimate that “one third” will prefer print is not explained. Develop these points and make your degree of agreement clear throughout to strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for printed and online reading, and a conclusion. Connectors such as “Moreover,” “In contrast,” and “In conclusion” help signal the broad direction of the argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the point about printed books as gifts and collectibles is added without being linked to the earlier health argument, and the online paragraph moves quickly from device capacity to software and portability. Some linking is mechanical, with “Moreover” repeated, and references such as “these” and “its usage” are not always clear. Group related reasons and use more precise links between claims and examples to make the argument easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “physical books,” “valuable gift,” “breakthrough software tools,” and “technology.” This is enough to communicate the main ideas, but word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or awkward, which limits precision. Examples include “read on online,” “eye starin,” “more upgraded,” and “its usage is much more easy.” There are also spelling errors such as “memoreable” and “thats,” and some repeated general terms, particularly “people,” “books,” and “online.” Aim to learn natural word partnerships and check spelling; more precise phrasing would make your comparisons clearer and more convincing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, using clauses with “because,” “so,” and “though,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. However, errors occur frequently in sentence structure and grammatical forms. The opening sentence joins two independent clauses with only a comma, while “it create a image” has subject–verb and article errors. Other examples include “which are occured,” “at a same time,” and “more feature may be uploaded.” These patterns sometimes make the reader pause to interpret the intended meaning. Practise accurate agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries, then proofread each sentence. Building reliable complex sentences will help you express the contrast between the two formats more clearly.
