IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays many people read news and bookd online instead using of printed books. Many people believe that in future nobidy buy printed newspapers beacaus everything will be free on online platforms.

On the one hand it is true online learning becoming more popolur. The internet is very fast and cheapest way of learning. We can read anything at any time at anywhere. They do not need to go shop or visit any laibrary.Even Students can download any kind of books through internet. For this reason the printed books has already a lot in many countries.

On the other hand i dont think printed books or newpapers will completely disappear.Because in this modren life many people still enjoy reading on a real book. The raeson is that it is more comfortable for the eyes and help them to concentrate better. For instance older people read only on real books because they are not comforable with technology. In addition printed books does not require any internet connection or battery. In the village people can also read real books without internet.

Furthermore some books like school textbooks and religious books still in printed form because students can not concentrate on e books

Although online raeding will continue grow.I did not belive real books will not completely disappear. Both will exist together but people will prefer online reading in future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You present a relevant, balanced response: you acknowledge the convenience of online reading and state that printed books and newspapers will not disappear completely. Your reasons—comfort for the eyes, concentration, and access where there is no internet—address the topic, and the conclusion restates your view. However, the position is not consistently expressed: the opening mainly paraphrases the claim, while “I did not believe real books will not completely disappear” is difficult to interpret. Several points, such as textbooks and religious books, are introduced but not explained or supported. The response also contains 220 words, below the required 250, so the discussion is too brief to develop its ideas sufficiently. Clarify your degree of agreement and extend each main reason with explanation or an example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two contrasting body sections, an additional point, and a conclusion. “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” help signal the change in viewpoint, and the ideas generally remain relevant to their paragraphs. However, progression is uneven: the paragraph beginning “Furthermore” is very short and feels detached from the discussion, while the conclusion repeats the main claim without drawing the reasons together. Some links are mechanical or unclear, as in “Although online reading will continue grow,” which does not connect smoothly to the following sentence. Group the points into two fully developed body paragraphs, use clearer links between reasons, and make references such as “they” unambiguous.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “printed books,” “internet connection,” “concentrate,” and “technology.” There are also attempts to express comparison and prediction. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make the writing less clear, for example “bookd,” “nobidy,” “popolur,” “raeson,” and “comforable.” Some phrases are unnatural, including “cheapest way of learning,” “a lot in many countries,” and “real book.” These errors are noticeable and occasionally require the reader to infer the intended meaning. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for this topic, such as “access books online,” “printed publications,” and “digital reading.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple sentences and more complex forms, including a contrast introduced by “Although” and a reason introduced by “because.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in basic sentence patterns as well as in longer attempts. Examples include “online learning becoming more popular,” “the printed books has,” and “printed books does not,” where verb forms or subject–verb agreement are incorrect. Articles and prepositions are also often missing or misplaced, as in “go shop” and “at anywhere.” The final sentence beginning “Although” is a fragment, and punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent. Practise building complete sentences with accurate subjects and verbs, then check agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries.
