IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books as they will be able to read everthing they prefer online witout paying. I agree with this statement as of now the technology has developed so much that most of the things are free and just one click away.
Firstly, due to the advancement of the technology people prefer to use online means other than buying books or newspapers. It has descends the value of print media. Since a small number of people prefer to read printed books and newspapers it has impact the printing bussiness as well. While, digital influence of the technology has made it easire to access anything anywhere which is the main reason of the techological shift of people.
Secondly, the prind media might feel expensive because most of the books, audio files and news are free on social media and other websites. So, there is no need to go to a specific place to buy a book or a paper. Moreover, people do not even need to carry a lot of weight with them. For instance in mobile or tablet we can have hundereds of books at a time while it has a constant weight on the other hand, if we talk about print form so it could be havier and uncomfortable to keep it with us.
People prefer to switch to e-books rather than waiting to have the printed version which they can enjoy reading while traveling or moving. Moreover, they can use audio books to listen to these while moving around without putting extra effeorts in reading.
However print media has some benefits but people prefer to use online resources as there arecost effective and easily accessible without being a burden to carry .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the introduction: you agree that online access will reduce purchases of printed material. You give relevant reasons, including convenience, lower cost, portability, and access to e-books and audiobooks, and the example of carrying hundreds of books on a device helps illustrate the point. However, the discussion does not fully examine the claim that everything people want will be available online without payment. The conclusion briefly acknowledges benefits of print media, but those benefits are not explained, and the prediction that nobody will buy printed books or newspapers is not qualified or supported in depth. Develop the counterargument and explain why your reasons support the extent of your agreement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two main supporting paragraphs, and a concluding contrast. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “However” help readers follow the broad direction of the argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the first body paragraph moves from technology to print-media value and then to access without clearly showing how each point connects. Some linking is mechanical, and “Moreover” is repeated without adding a distinct relationship. The final paragraph is very brief and does not clearly summarise the main reasons. Use clearer topic sentences, connect each explanation directly to its main point, and give the conclusion a fuller, purposeful role.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “advancement,” “digital,” “accessible,” “e-books,” and “audio books,” and the reader can generally understand your intended meaning. However, the range is limited and several word-choice or collocation problems make the writing less natural, such as “It has descends the value,” “digital influence,” and “constant weight.” Spelling errors are also noticeable, including “everthing,” “witout,” “bussiness,” and “havier.” These issues sometimes make the reader pause to interpret the message. Build a more accurate range of topic vocabulary and check spelling carefully; also learn common combinations such as “decline in demand” and “cost-effective alternative.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “as,” “since,” and “while,” and your main ideas are usually understandable. However, control is inconsistent, particularly in longer sentences. For example, “Since a small number of people prefer to read printed books and newspapers it has impact the printing business” has unclear clause structure and incorrect verb formation. In “people prefer to use online means other than buying,” the comparison is not grammatically parallel. There are also problems with articles, agreement, and punctuation, as in “However print media has some benefits.” Aim for shorter, more controlled sentences first, then practise combining ideas with accurate clauses and consistent parallel structures.
