Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 198 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the arguments remain superficial and lack sufficient supporting evidence or examples. While you state a position ('I partially agree'), the development of this position is limited. The essay addresses the prompt, but the lack of depth and the failure to meet the length requirement mean that the task is only partially addressed. To improve, you must expand your arguments with specific examples and ensure you meet the minimum word count to allow for a full exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand', they are sometimes used mechanically or inappropriately. For instance, the transition between the benefits of physical books and health problems is abrupt. The conclusion is also very brief and does not effectively summarise the main points of the essay. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that flows logically into the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several spelling errors, such as 'undeinable', 'partailly', and 'there' (used instead of 'their'). You rely on basic vocabulary, such as 'things', 'good', and 'problems'. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary and collocations. For example, instead of 'increase the knowledge', you could use 'broaden one's intellectual horizons'. Focus on proofreading your work to eliminate simple spelling mistakes and try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms for common words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'it aware us' (should be 'it makes us aware'), 'people's can visit' (should be 'people can visit'), and 'its develop' (should be 'it develops'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. The errors in subject-verb agreement and word form are noticeable throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like subject-verb agreement and article usage before attempting more complex structures.
