IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is often argued that in upcoming years, people will prefer to read online materials over printed newspapers or book as they will be able to read everything on screen without paying any charge. Although, this view is not entirely applicable in every situation, I largely agree because it is accessible anywhere and is affordable to everyone
The foremost reason why I subscribe to this perspective is that it is easily accessible anywhere. This is primarily because many people are unable to provide sufficient time for reading newspaper in morning or evening due to their busy schedule. As a result, this disconnects them from the current affairs. For instance, a person working under IT department can read online newspaper in short breaks as it can be accessed online. Consequently, online reading enables an individual to consume online content.
Another equally significant factor is that online materials are affordable to everyone. This is primarily because many parents are not able to purchase books for their children due to the high cost. Children of such families are not able to access books which is not affordable, meanwhile such materials are available online with free of charges. As a result, students with great potential will be able to gain knowledge. For instance, low income families are unable to afford costly books but online materials which are cost friendly helps their children to gather more and more information. Consequently, this leads to overall development of individuals and society as a whole.
Admittedly, some people argue that consuming online materials leads to poor eyesight. This is primarily because it increases screen time of the individuals who are reading from the screen rigorously. However, there are eye protection glasses which helps to resolve this problem to a large extent. Consequently, it can be accessed by everyone and outweigh the negative consequences.
In conclusion, although I acknowledge that this view has certain limitations, I agree with it to a large extent because it is cost friendly and accessible in leisure time, this reasons are considerably more convincing than the opposite arguments.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have addressed all parts of the prompt and maintained a clear position throughout the essay. Your arguments regarding accessibility and affordability are relevant and logically extended. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the second body paragraph where the point about affordability is restated multiple times without adding new depth. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting sentence adds a new dimension to your argument rather than paraphrasing the previous one. Overall, your position is well-supported and the response is fully on-topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'The foremost reason', 'Another equally significant factor', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'This is primarily because' and 'Consequently'. Additionally, the referencing in the second paragraph ('such materials are available online') is clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'current affairs', 'rigorously', and 'limitations'. There are some instances of slightly unnatural collocations or word choices, such as 'cost friendly' (better as 'cost-effective' or 'affordable') and 'free of charges' (better as 'free of charge'). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, some errors in word choice persist. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'read newspaper' (missing article), 'helps to resolve' (subject-verb agreement: 'help' should be plural to match 'glasses'), and 'this reasons' (should be 'these reasons'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are minor slips throughout. You have control over basic structures, but more consistent accuracy in complex sentences is needed to move into the 7.0+ range.
