Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 127 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the writer attempts to address the prompt regarding the future of printed media, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack the necessary depth and structure for an academic essay. The position is stated but not supported with sufficient reasoning or examples. Due to the severe under-length and lack of task development, the response does not meet the criteria for a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay lacks a clear logical progression. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the ideas within the paragraphs are disjointed and repetitive. Cohesive devices are used in a very limited and sometimes mechanical way, such as 'further more' and 'in addition to', which are often used incorrectly or without a clear link to the preceding sentence. The lack of a clear introduction and conclusion further hinders the overall flow and structure of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is very basic and repetitive, relying on simple terms like 'internet', 'read', and 'online'. There is no evidence of a range of vocabulary suitable for an academic task. Many phrases are used inaccurately, such as 'take the information' instead of 'access information' or 'see many activity' instead of 'engage in many activities'. The limited range of words makes it difficult to express complex ideas effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Every person use'), tense usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, and there is a lack of complex sentence structures. Punctuation is also inconsistent, which further complicates the readability of the text. The grammatical control is insufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly.
