IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
this is a valid argument to raise. well i disagree with the statement which says that in upcoming era no individual will purchase printed books and newspaper .from my perspective, if we only consider the newspapers this statement might be true for that however online books can never replace the printed ones.
and reasons are as simple as that online books requires the same amount of money for their purchase as the printed books but physical books provide much better level of comfort and experience than the online books.
although the world is developing so rapidly but true readers still prefer to read printed books nevertheless this is the point of contention and not the point of commonality.
i would like to add another point here that readers have some special kind of attachment with books they read so this can also be the reason of their preference for printed books.
but there is a catch, some online platforms provide free of cost books to read online so according to this if we put money in the equation we can say that choosing online books would be better decision.
moreover if we take a look at past we can say that world already have developed so much so if it was meant to happen it would have happened by now.
to conclude this argument i would say online books are great oppurtunity for readers but they would never be able to replace printed books because they leave much better impression on readers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against the statement. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention the 'comfort' of physical books and the 'attachment' readers feel, these points are not fully extended or supported with concrete examples. The argument regarding free online platforms is a good point, but it is presented in a slightly contradictory way. To reach a higher band, ensure each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed idea with supporting evidence or logical reasoning, rather than listing several points briefly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into short paragraphs, but the logical flow is hindered by the lack of clear transition signals. Many sentences are joined by simple conjunctions like 'and' or 'but', and the paragraphing is somewhat fragmented. For example, the transition between the point about 'attachment' and the 'catch' regarding free platforms is abrupt. Using a wider range of cohesive devices (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'Conversely', 'Consequently') would help guide the reader more effectively through your argument and improve the overall structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'good opportunity' and 'better level of comfort'. There are also some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'oppurtunity'. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and topic-specific vocabulary related to digital media and publishing, such as 'digitization', 'tangible experience', or 'accessibility'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in punctuation, capitalization, and grammar. For instance, the lack of capitalization at the start of sentences and the misuse of commas affect readability. There are also minor errors in subject-verb agreement, such as 'online books requires'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focusing on sentence boundary punctuation and consistent verb agreement will significantly improve your accuracy.
