IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.5)
In the near future, people will choose to read books and newspapers online rather than buying a printed copy as almost everything is available online. In my opinion, this represents the future of readers. It is cost effective and readers have easy access to multiple genre of books, articles and multiple language and regional newspapers.
Furthermore, there are multiple reasons of people adopting to online books and newspapers. One of the primary reasons is that it is much more cost effective than buying a hard copy. Many famous books that can cost thousands of rupees can be availed for free or by paying a very little amount of money online. In addition, the inconvenience of visiting a store or a library to buy a book is eliminated. Thus, it saves both time and money of a reader. There are a number of other pros such as they can read anytime and a hard copy of the book or newspaper do need not to be carried.
In addition, there is no confusion of choosing out of multiple options. Rather they can access almost every book online. The invention of audio books further motivates people towards online reading. One literally doesn't need to read in order to gain knowledge. People can choose from multiple genre of books and articles like a biography, romantic, thriller, general knowledge, philosophy, business, personal development and many more. Almost every region and country's news is available online for the reader.
In today's world, it is very convenient that a wide range of articles, multi-language newspapers and multi-genre books are available online. The youth of today's time can be drawn towards reading more often. This helps frame the future generations success. To conclude, reading online is a very impactful, convenient and economical way to gain knowledge.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed the prompt by expressing a clear opinion in favor of online reading. However, the task asks you to consider the extent to which you agree that 'nobody will buy printed newspapers or books' and that they will be 'without paying.' Your response focuses heavily on the benefits of online reading but fails to address the counter-argument or the absolute nature of the prompt (the idea that printed media will disappear entirely). To reach a higher band, you should acknowledge the continued relevance of physical books or discuss whether 'free' access is truly universal. The ideas are relevant but could be more critically developed to explore the 'extent' of your agreement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central theme. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore,' 'In addition,' and 'Thus' to connect your ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel repetitive. For example, starting multiple paragraphs with 'In addition' limits the variety of your linking words. To improve, try to use more sophisticated referencing and a wider range of cohesive devices to create a smoother progression between sentences and paragraphs. The overall structure is clear and easy to follow, which is a strength.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'cost-effective,' 'inconvenience,' and 'eliminates.' However, there are some issues with word choice and collocation. For instance, you use 'multiple genre of books' (should be 'genres') and 'choosing out of multiple options' (which is slightly unnatural). You also repeat the phrase 'multiple genre' and 'multiple reasons' frequently. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding the repetition of basic words. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic or topic-specific synonyms would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'hard copy of the book or newspaper do need not to be carried' (awkward phrasing and redundant 'do'), 'reasons of people adopting' (should be 'reasons for people adopting'), and 'future generations success' (missing possessive apostrophe). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions to improve your accuracy.
