IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.5)
These days, due to the advancement in science and technology, people become more compact and they start relying on technology. Some people believe that everything is available on internet nowadays, so people will not buy books they will read it online. While other believe book is the good medium to read. I strongly believe that people who find this mode appealing will rely on internet for the sake of reading.
Firstly, reading online is far too surprising because you can read not only any version of a book but also find it for free. It is really great to know that now people who can't afford to get a book can easily find it on internet. For instance, people who are unable to purchase and those who live in backward areas and hardly ever find it on nearby stores. It's just a click away and they can find it for free.
What's more, since mobile phone is portable, they can bring it to anywhere with them and continue their reading without being distracted. Nowadays, most of the students are reading online because that is hard to print out so many notes. In future, the number of people studying online will be increased. For example, a person who is too busy and hardly get a time to read, they can read it on mobile phone while travelling. This is how an internet is a hub and allows people to get whatever they want to read with complete ease.
Moreover, though internet is the great source of reading but some people still find a book the comfortable source. They believe that there should be something physical in their hand and they find the tradition mode of learning more comfortable and sometimes they are concern about eyesight.
All things considered, there is the great probability
that people will start reading online more due to the easiness they find online. But still some traditional people will prefer book over online mode as they find reading on screen quite hectic.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the shift toward digital reading and the enduring appeal of physical books. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding students reading online is mentioned but not fully explored in terms of academic impact. The position is clear, but the conclusion is abrupt and lacks a final summary of the main points. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph provides a deeper analysis of the 'why' and 'how' behind the arguments, rather than just stating them. The response covers all parts of the task, but the depth of support is inconsistent.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'What's more', and 'Moreover' are used to signal transitions between ideas. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'All things considered, there is the great probability that...'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where 'it' is used repeatedly without a clear antecedent. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to specific nouns would enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There is a reliance on basic terms like 'good', 'great', and 'things'. Some collocations are unnatural, such as 'reading is far too surprising' or 'tradition mode of learning'. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'advancement in science and technology' and 'portable', the range is limited. To reach a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated synonyms and idiomatic collocations that reflect a more academic tone.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'mobile phone is portable, they can bring it'), missing articles (e.g., 'on internet'), and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'people become more compact'). Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentences are run-on or lack necessary commas. While the meaning is usually understandable, the frequency of errors prevents the writing from being considered fluent and accurate. Focus on mastering basic sentence structure and article usage.
